I'm sure a tester pot would be enough, because AS Chalk Paint is easier to work with if it's watered down, and you will need two coats. Use a thinner coat on top as it will give a finer finish with fewer brush marks.

As for colour, if you prefer to keep dark you could use graphite which would tone in with your tiled border.Or, if you would prefer cream I personally would use Old Ochre as it's a much nicer shade, AS Cream is a bit too yellowy for my liking. You could always go for a bright contrast with Emperors Silk, which is a lovely bright red.

Don't forget, the colours darken a little when the wax is applied.

If the clock is a mahogany colour you may find that you get pinkish spots bleeding through with light colours, in which case you need to cover them with a clear knotting solution to seal them. They probably wouldn't show if you used a darker colour paint.

I look forward to seeing the photos....... :)

The media cupboard is now kind of finished.

I still want to prettify the doors either with vintage rose wallpaper or decoupage. I'm even toying with gluing lace or doilies to the door and painting over it to look like its part of the woodwork.

Not sure yet but its finished for now.

Time to move on to another project whilst I'm pondering the wilder possibilities for its future improvements.

    Aww thank you wilsooon!

This is my room of choice at the moment. I told OH that I wanted some mirrors on the wall and half described it to him, and the lovely man bought me lots for Christmas and my birthday. I need one more small one for the wall in this pic to balance it out (next to the other small one by the window) and I have a couple more for elsewhere in the house, one which is framed and I plan on priming it today as I'm not keen on the gilding on it. Please excuse the rubbish, grainy picture - taken with my phone before I had had any coffee!!

I like the ideas for the clock. I've got a mantle clock, but I'm leaving it in it's original condition. I'd miss it's chime though if I got rid (although the children probably wouldn't!).

Thank you for the lovely comments about my kitchen too - I almost feel a bit guilty changing it now. :rotfl:

That cupboard looks really lovely jumblejack.

  • Aww thank you. I'm just pleased he understood what I meant - it could have gone really wrong! He also bought me a massive (and very old) bread proving bowl which I've got in the sitting room keeping my yarn tidy and my chiming Smiths mantle clock (my Grandfather worked for Smiths, albeit the aeronautical side, a very long time ago).

I was about to say I have nothing on the go at the moment, but I am in the middle of knitting cushion #2 of 8 for the sitting room, jazzing up my little ikea drawers which will hold some of my haberdashery (I'll try to upload a picture), priming the frame on this mirror I've got, painting the bedroom walls...

It seems I have more going on than I should! I am going to disappear into this thread later and look at all the lovely things here.

Happy Birthday sootypea! I treated myself to the same sewing machine just before Xmas when it was on offer at Hobbycraft.
  • Todays jobs - priming!

I can't seem to adjust the size of the pictures - I am trying! I'm not sure if photobucket is playing up or I'm being a bit dense...or a combination thereof ;)
