I upcycled a fabric magasine rack tonight to use for hiding away my crochet projects.
Very shabby chic. I painted the frame with chalk paint and used fabric scraps for the material.....

Many thanks
Yes, I unpicked the existing paisley cover to use as a template.
It was fiddly putting the new one on as it had to be sewn around the frame. I took my time and neatly hand stitched it on.
I can't wait to see your chairs. You will love upcycling them.:A Every moment is a gift. That's why we call it the present.!:A

Hi
Long time lurker here who has been admiring all your projects. You are all so talented and have so much patience - something I'm a little lacking in. I finally found my love of crafting a couple of years ago and now there is not enough time, money or space for all the plans I have!
I have lots of pieces primed and ready to paint, including chairs and wall cabinets, but am almost scared to take the next step and start painting them. I have just made my first purchase of Chalk Paint although Miss Mustard Seed, not AS. I also hope to make my own chalk paint.
Next mini-project will be staining and doing a transfer on a hardwood crate/trug that a woodworker friend made for me. I've admired the photo of one earlier on the thread here - can I ask what stain was used?
Hope you don't mind me bobbing in every so often to admire and ask for guidance?0 -

Do you mean 'milk paint?' Because as far as I know MMS only does milk paint. This is used in a different way to chalk paint and you wouldn't want to use it on primed wood. It cracks revealing the wood beneath so your primer would be on show. It looks best on old dark wood.
Bob in as much as you like!0 -

i have read through a few posts and wanted to just check something out......
i have a bookcase that i currently working on, i decided to use DIMITY but once it arrived i decided that i would save that for something else as i want to keep the bookcase white.
What is the best white paint to use that will still look good once i have sanded here and there to make it shabby?
hope i am making sense?
thanks
vickie

Any white paint (apart from budget paints) will do but emulsion will require further protection with wax or varnish. Eggshell (oil based or water based) will not. It all depends on the sheen you're hoping to achieve. I would avoid oil based white gloss like the plague! It ain't what it used to be and yellows very fast. You can get a Dulux water based gloss whish is far better and stays white! But gloss is not used for shabby chiccing really.0 -
I lied! I just checked order and it was Authentico paint *grin*
I haven't bought any wax yet as am still umming and ahhing about which one to get. I am very judget conscious.
I lied about the first mini-project too. Decided this afternoon to chop an inch off legs of a footstool that was a bit too high. Hopefully this will be a dual painting and upholstry project. Suspect it will be better to paint before tackling upholstry? Am planning a patchwork effect with lots of left over fabric scraps.
A friend taught me knit about 4 years ago and I immediately became addicted and that has led me on to falling in love with every other craft too. This is after years of ribbing my Sister about how boring she was being crafty. Now I just think all those years I wasted when I could have been enjoying it myself.
At least with this thread, I don't feel so alone - for seeking answers to daft questions if you see what I mean. *grin*
I am as happy to shop off failures as well as successes as my ideas are far better than my execution of them. I warn you, I do a lot of *grin*ning. *grin*0 -
A quick shabby chic project that you can do with your fabric scraps in less than 15 mins....
(I know cos I just did it in less than 10:)

Hi all, here is my charity shop childs Ikea chair. Painting my kitchen was put on hold until I finished it. My 4-yr-old loves it.I must remember that "Money Saving" is not buying heavily discounted items that I do not need. :hello:0
