Thank you. That chair took ages as it had to be stripped back to the shell and then repadded and upholstered. I have an old recliner that was in a similar condition and that was another rebuild job!

The dressing table was my first attempt at painting old furniture. I orginally had it with the drawer fronts wallpapered and the rest of it white but when I redecorated my bedroom I painted over the wallpaper and made it white all over.

I'm just finishing off some chairs for sale - they are mainly decoupaged - and then the next project for my house is an old sideboard with barley twist legs that is going to be upcycled, but I haven't decided on a finish yet.

Please can I ask how you painted the chest of drawers-2nd pic?
    Is that chalk paint?

I lobe everything in the pictures, but I have a chest similar & would love to make it look like that!

the thing with lloyd loom is it has to be thin paint to avoid clogging up the weave. I've seen some sad stuff at boot fairs. I have 3 loom chairs - last one I did I sprayed with Poundland white car primer before spraying with a decent paint, and I did the cross struts and legs with a brush in Wilkos primer before spraying.
Another chair I sprayed with light green paint I found at 99p store, it worked as a inexpensive undercoat for white top coat.
I have occasionally drybrushed chalk paint on to woven baskets, but never aiming for full coverage, just a suggestion of colour.

Many thanks chalkysoil, I would never have thought of using car paint primer.

I've sprayed Lloyd Loom in the past but they've been pieces that haven't had a lot of use so didn't prime beforehand but I've been thinking of doing the family linen bin & you've given me an idea :)

    Hi Surbybird!
I've never seen decoupage which looked so even and so like one 'coat'; how do you do that? All the decoupage I've ever seen has either been cut out pictures added to a plain background or lots of small torn or cut pieces all stuck on to form a layer like a coloured papier mache layer. The stool looks fab (as do your other pieces)

It's just done in water-based white satin. I wanted it to have a bit of sheen but not be glossy. It started out as very heavily varnished dark wood and I had to strip off the thick coating of varnish using 3M SandBlaster sanding paper first. Don't forget primer!

I've not tried chalk paint yet but have been looking at making my own and might try it for my next project.

    Hi Seakay

That stool was a bit of an experiment. I found the paper that I wanted to use but decided that I wanted to keep the pattern intact. I actually just cut the paper to fit the stool and pasted it on in large pieces! I'm just finishing a chair which uses 2 methods - the cut up pieces on the spindles and legs and a large piece to cover the seat. Another 5 or 6 coats of varnish and it'll be done!

I was passing a second hand shop today and saw some chairs for sale. I thought it said £5 pair. Mr F went to get them and they said £6 pair but he offered £5 pair and got them delivered! They are painted in what looks like gloss paint - I remember chairs this style in my Mum's kitchen - 1950s/1960s. Mum's ones were not painted. I would call them Bentwood chairs - round seats. I will take photos tomorrow in the daylight - let me know if they are suitable to shabby chic please. I am thinking of them painted with a patchwork cushion on the seat.

Here are photos of the chairs bought yesterday. As I said - only cost £5 for the pair - are they suitable to shabby chic please?

Surbybird, that chair is AMAZING! I would pay good money for a chair like that. I love it!
