Yep. Its water based. (I just ran to check).
I will certainly post pics.
The plaster of Paris went greyish when I dissolved it in the water so I'm hoping that it won't affect the colour?:A Every moment is a gift. That's why we call it the present.!:A

Hello, I thought some of you might like to know that there are final reductions at Emma Bridgewater with lots of reduced items such as mugs ( seconds) for just £5.
http://www.emmabridgewater.co.uk/page/decembersale12
I have been naughty and spent birthday money on mugs, tea-towels and a fruit bowl for my kitchen. I am getting a new kitchen fitted next month and am very excited.:j
On that topic, please may i have some advice? I have a perfectly good, well made bread-bin but it is pine and will not fit in with my new scheme. Is it safe to paint / spray paint it a different colour? I am usually happy to paint things but as this will be used to store food I am a bit put off. Sorry if this sounds stupid!0 -
Blimey. They are really expensive. :O
Very nice though:A Every moment is a gift. That's why we call it the present.!:A

Yeah, it's fine. I'd use oil based eggshell so you'd have a very hard, wipeable and durable finish. Is it pine though? They're usually beech, which is the colour of pine, but without the knots. If it has knots and isn't factory lacquered you might need to treat the knots...
Once the smell has gone from the paint, and it's cured, it'll be fine for storing food. I guess you could also use spray paint. You should do it outside, check the direction of the wind (!) and remember many thin coats are better than thick coats with run marks!0 -
Thanks for the reassurance emma kate, I already have some oil based egg shell so I guess I will give it a go with that - it seems a waste to replace it, especially when it has served me well for over 10 years! (eta and I think you're right that it isn't pine as there are no knots!).
And Jumble Jack, I agree it is expensive but so lovely, all hand made and chunky. I can't justify the normal prices to myself, no way, but I'm very chuffed with the seconds I bought at about 75% off.:D0 -

Hello all
Hope you don't mind me posting up some pictures of my projects.
I am another furniture painter but I also decoupage anything that I can stick paper to. I have recently completed a decoupaged chair and as soon as I get a pic of it, I'll post it up.
Most of the following are Freecycle finds.
This is a Victorian nursing chair that I picked up. It was badly damaged and needed completely reupholstering. It cost me about £20 to renovate.
This chest of drawers was damaged and missing handles on the drawers. A coat of paint and some new handles on the drawers transformed it.
Another old chest of drawers but this one has the top from a dressing table stuck on top. Again, paint and new handles.
This is an Ikea stool that I painted and decoupaged and is now an occasional table.
And a very wobbly chair which was glued, painted and reupholstered.
More to come!
Kate

They are all great Kate! I love the first chair! I'm working on an Edwardian dressing table VERY similar to yours but have gone for a very different finish...I'll post when I'm done. It's the opposite of your nice white one and very grungy! Yours looks lovely!0

Thank you. That chair took ages as it had to be stripped back to the shell and then repadded and upholstered. I have an old recliner that was in a similar condition and that was another rebuild job!
The dressing table was my first attempt at painting old furniture. I orginally had it with the drawer fronts wallpapered and the rest of it white but when I redecorated my bedroom I painted over the wallpaper and made it white all over.
I'm just finishing off some chairs for sale - they are mainly decoupaged - and then the next project for my house is an old sideboard with barley twist legs that is going to be upcycled, but I haven't decided on a finish yet.
