I don't know what experienced users of soft wax would think of it, but i came across this one which seemed to be a lot cheaper than AS and which is made with white spirit and no other solvents

Yes you can use any wax! If it's very yellow though, you may get a yellow tint...

You get what you pay for I'm afraid. Not all sandpapers are created equal.

Where do you guys get your soft waxes from?

I know Annie sloan does them but I'm thinking cheaper ;)
    Cheers you crafty lot!

Here is a link to Miss Mustard Seeds blog in which she gives a lot of info on which top coats are best and where. Some of the products are American but it's still very useful, especially if you're new to this...http://missmustardseed.com/2013/01/topcoats-updated/

I don't use soft wax so I can't comment. I use Liberon beeswax with pure turpentine and always have. I don't like Annies. It's sticky.

MMS says paste wax is a lot cheaper...

Hi guys, first time i've posted on here but following you all for a while. Thanks to all who post pictures etc - very inspirational :T

Quick question for you experts out there - I've got a white 'Lloyd Loom' style chair that I got off ebay that needs sprucing up. It was originally dusky pink but previous owner painted it white but not a great job as can still see bits of pink. I then tried spray painting it but used whole can and can still see pink in cracks etc. It seems to soak up spray paint as well. Any ideas on how to get good finish without costing a fortune?
    Thanks.

Funnily enough, I did read on the purple painted lady yesterday that chalk paint can even be used on fabric.

Might be worth a quick google?

the thing with lloyd loom is it has to be thin paint to avoid clogging up the weave. I've seen some sad stuff at boot fairs. I have 3 loom chairs - last one I did I sprayed with Poundland white car primer before spraying with a decent paint, and I did the cross struts and legs with a brush in Wilkos primer before spraying.
Another chair I sprayed with light green paint I found at 99p store, it worked as a inexpensive undercoat for white top coat.
I have occasionally drybrushed chalk paint on to woven baskets, but never aiming for full coverage, just a suggestion of colour.
