Hello, not been on here for a while! I am going to a ceramics course and will have the opportunity to make plenty of things out of clay and I wondered if any of you had any ideas as to some shabby chic items I could make? There will be hand building and throwing so I can have a go at most things. Just looking for some inspiration really!

    Hi all

I have posted i think right at the beginning of the thread.. but life rather intervened and I got promoted and promptly began working all the hours god sends lol

But if its ok I want to share my dresser which is still a work in progress (I am in great debate about the handles and the top needs to be stained and varnished) my lovely DH bought me a secondhand dresser for my birthday to refurbish (despite numerous confusing conversations where he couldnt understand why I didnt want brand new and would rather vintage that I could work on .... :rotfl:)

I hope this works as I have only posted photos once or twice before and my memory is a tad fuzzy.

Hope its ok - and it still needs many finishing touches lol

    The after pic

    Hope that worked lol

    xx

Oooops sorry those are huge - I will do photos smaller next time but not sure how to change them!!!!

I love that dresser! so much so that I am going to give mine the same makeover. And the Keep Calm and Carry On sign, excellent,I have a smaller plain red version framed on my kitchen wall. I like the door and draw knobs as they are, would also look nice if they were replaced with victorian -looking glass ones.

I've just started painting the dressing table I mentioned a couple of weeks ago. Well actually I haven't, I've started on the stool, as I'm too chicken! I've applied one coat of primer, and it looks awful - that's normal right? I want to minimise brush marks - I was planning 2x primer coats and 2x eggshell coats - should I sand between every layer? Or just after both layers of primer and between each of eggshell?

    Thanks

To get a good finish sand lightly but well to give key. Undercoat (applied with good quality no bristle loss brush) and then several topcoats, sanding lightly with high grade (at least 180 grit) sandpaper between coats. For oil based leave 24 hours between each coat and preferably 5 days afterwards before use, to allow the paint coats to properly adhere to each other and harden off. For water based do whatever the can says. To avoid brush strokes you van use a foam roller on flat surfaces.

Hi there and welcome :). In order to post photos you have to upload them to a web hosting site first. I use photobucket but there are others. You then right click on the img thumb of your picture and copy it. Then paste it into your message on here. If you preview your post, you will be able to see the picture.
Unfortunately, as a new member you're not able to post links until you've hit a certain amount of posts (I'm sorry, I don't know how many posts- 15 or 50 seem to be in my mind). This is due to the amount of spamming that goes on.
So, you'd best just get chatting on here :). Answer posts, tell us about your projects etc etc and build up your post count. Then you can put up pics.
    We love pictures :D.

I'm almost finished in the utility. There is a little bit more cutting in to do on the ceiling which I will do tomorrow morning. Then I'm going to be at the stage where I can start undercoating woodwork. How exciting? I can paint my loft hatch, and I can start prepping and painting my sewing box. This is very exciting because it means I will be able to dejunk my bookshelves then and fill up my sewing box with my bits and bobs. I can also get my blinds done. I really want to get the woodwork all painted tomorrow because I start 4 nights tomorrow night and it would be great if I can get it finished to the stage of being able to put away the tumble drier and microwave before it's Fathers day on Sunday. Otherwise I'll have to get DH to do it and as it's my project, I'd like to finish it. I tried to stick on the worktop edging strip tonight but the adhesive I was using wasn't apropriate for the job. Will go and get some tomorrow.
    Cheerio :)
