Swinstie - As Enchantica said, you'll find the perfect venue for you and your OH - just keep looking! We're having chair covers, but only because we managed to get a really good deal on them and had saved a bit from elsewhere. It's a nice thing to have, but I've been to plenty of lovely weddings without them too!
Enchantica - OH and I both really want to go to Florida too, though probably not for quite a while as we wanted the quite romantic thing for our honeymoon. Mickey Mouse waffles sound amazing! We went to Disneyland Paris this year, so had a little taste of it but would love the big Florida trip. I'm getting broody too, but OH wants to wait until just after the honeymoon to start trying (though I really don't see why 2 weeks makes such a difference to him!!)
Both of our families met up for the first time properly at the weekend, and we had a really good chat about the wedding and everyone seemed to get on well (phew - no top table arguments!!) This weekend we've got our wee engagement gathering which I'm really looking forward to.Getting married 12/11/2011

Blue - that's funny, my mum came to meet OH's mum, stepdad, brother and gran at the weekend too
I'm glad yours got on well and you had a good chat about the wedding. We didn't talk about the wedding much but all got on great
Relief. Didn't think there would be any problems but you just never know with different folk meeting for the first time. Yeah me and OH had talked about the Maldives at first... til we remembered he doesn't like the sea (had a panic attack and since won't go in the sea) and it's actually quite hard to think of somewhere which will have nice weather in November which isn't beach orientated. So thought the US
I totally recommend Disneyland in Florida. There is so much to do and try, esp if you like rides. I have been to the Paris one and it was awesome too but this is just totally magical, even for adults. I honestly believed that dreams could come true when I was there (and they did, I swam with dolphins), it's just a totally crazy feeling. All Disney-esque. I hope the engagement party goes well at the weekend
Me and OH talked about trying for a family in June next year, since I probably wouldn't be showing by the wedding if we did conceive. But then he remembered that a lot of the rides in Disneyland aren't recommended for pregnant women. Totally waiting til halfway through the honeymoon just in case0 -
Well ladies, the venue we went to see on Saturday is totally perfect! They had a wedding set up and the room looked gorgeous, it will obviously be different for us as we are having one long table (only 20 of us) instead of a top table and 4 or 5 tables that they had (for 46 I think it was). The room was decorated in a lovely plummy colour which suits us as our colours are purple/lilac. So it's all booked now, yeah!
Going to a craft fayre in Glasgow at the end of October so will pick up some stuff for making invites, decided after scrutinising the ladies one on ebay that I could make them myself, my sister has all the kit as she makes her own b'day cards etc., so can use her stuff. Even found some thick card lying in a cupboard in work - guess what is sneaking into my bag one night - oops!
What else?! Changed our time to 3pm to suit getting pics done (and at suggestion of venue man), and I've also bought a headpiece off ebay (see below). Tried one on at a wedding fayre on Sunday but at over £200 I could not justify it. Mines was a Glitzy Secrets one, new with tags for £11.50 including postage, bargain. Think gonna calm down now til after Christmas, I'm stressing myself silly.
How's everyone else getting on, any further plans afoot?0 -
That's really great news about the venue Swinstie - congrats. The headpiece is gorgeous too - what a bargain!
Our planning is calming down now too for a while. We've got most things organsied except cars, but we're going to a wedding fayre at the start of November and will make a final decision after that. It's our engagement gathering tomorrow night and really looking forward to having a good celebration with some friends.Getting married 12/11/2011

Swinstie that's awesome that you found your perfect venue and that you got to see it set up as well, which will help you invisage your own wedding. How exciting! And your headpiece is so lovely. Well done on bagging a bargain because that is just beautiful. I am glad things are working out for you
I hope you had an awesome time at your engagement gathering Blue.
I can't believe how fast November has come Stellerstar! When it comes to 12th November I will be able to say '1 year til the wedding!' Also the ladies at work have put me on tea towel washing duty on that day next month. Don't think they knew but when I saw it on the rota I felt like writing beside it 'and 1 year til my wedding!' Lol.
Last Christmas as non-marrieds. Does that mean we will be 'smug marrieds' in 2011?! A la Bridget Jones?!0 -
Have any of you decided on your menus yet? We have on ours. OH is a fussy eater so we pretty much had to decide to make sure that he would eat something on the menu. Our starters are: chicken liver pate and oatcakes or garlic, cumin, chickpea and tomato soup, mains are chicken wrapped in parma ham stuffed with cream cheese pesto with green beans and potatoes or vegetarian haggis with neeps and tatties for the veggies, and sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce for pudding. I was glad the venue let us have choices for everyone, like if the meat eaters don't like chicken liver pate then they can have the soup but can have the meat for mains. I was surprised how few venues offer choices on their menus, it seems to be all set menus really.0

I know November is coming around fast! We're planning on having a pre-wedding anniversary that night - cooking OH some Italian food, and going to have a romantic night! We're going to our venue again on Saturday so we can see it all set up for a wedding at this time of year.
Your menu sounds lovely Enchantica. You don't have any people with nut allergies coming do you? Vegetarian haggis normally has ground nuts in it. I hope you don't mind me saying - it's just I've been caught with that before at an event where both options were nutty, one of which was veggie haggis and the organisers didn't realise about the nuts in it until I asked the kitchen staff, so all I got was an extra starter!
Our venue has various options depending on how much we want to spend per head. We're thinking of going for an option that has lentil and tomato soup or melon with bucks fizz sorbet to start with, chicken with a timbale of haggis, neeps and tatties and whiskey cream, or beef medalions in a red wine and shallot sauce for the main, followed by raspberry and vanilla creme brulee or apple pit for pudding. We have to order veggie options in advance, so will be asking for this (and other dietary requirements) with our RSVPs.Getting married 12/11/2011

A pre-wedding anniversary night sounds AWESOME!! Totally need to do that while I'm washing the tea towels lol.
I'm glad you mentioned about the nuts, I hadn't even thought of that. I thought about it for the pesto in the chicken but not the haggis. As far as I know, there are no nut allergies in the guest list apart from my brother who isn't actually allergic to pine nuts. But will double check just in case. Thanks for mentioningYour food options sound lovely. Mmm I'm hungry again lol.
I have just had an idea. Since I'm having 5 bridesmaids, that would mean a lot of money spent on flowers for bouquets, never mind flowers for decoration. So we decided not to have any flowers for decoration and the bridesmaids and me can have silk flowers. I got some and they are a lot smaller than I thought they would be. So no I am thinking 'snow flake bouquet' and just incorporate the flowers into it. I'm kinda crafty so it could look good, or look really ugly lol. Will get a few pieces of paper and start seeing if I can make some nice snow flakes like I used to in primary school! Maybe have some paper snow flakes dangling from the bottom of the flowers or something. Just to make them look a bit more interesting.0 -
My beautiful girlfriend and i have recently got engaged and have set a date of November 19th 2011. We have just received the contract from our venue and will be paying the deposit this weekend. My OH chose the venue as its where she always wanted to get married (its a little pricey but she's worth it). I cant believe how organised everyone is on here. We have done a lot of talking and we know what we want, so i suppose we now need to start booking things.
I will try and keep everyone updated as things happen.
Only 386 days to go.........:j:j:j0
