  • Welcome to the thread Imber :) And congratulations on your engagement. Fabulous :D So where abouts in the country are you? Scotland/England etc? Me and OH did the same thing as you, we have booked a venue which was a bit pricey but exactly what we wanted. So what kind of wedding are you going for do you think? Traditional? Or something a bit different? Me and OH are into metal so we are having a gothic type venue. Have you thought about your honeymoon?

Don't worry about organising everything, some of us are just very keen (esp me!). We all update as and when we want to, nothing compulsory here. Just whenever we feel like it :)
  • Congratulations, and welcome Imber. Our venue is a bit pricey too, but it was perfect for us, and my parents are very kindly paying for this part for us :D.

We actually had another visit to our venue this weekend, so that we could see it around the time of year we'll be getting married. The room was all done up for another wedding, and we got a few ideas from things the bride had done, plus we got to have a look around the honeymoon suite which we'll have on the night of the wedding. It was such a lovely room with a massive jacuzzi bath :D

How is everyone else's planning going?

  • Congrats and welcome Imber! Hows the planning going? Got anything else booked yet?

oooooowwww Blue, that jacuzzi sounds fab! Its good that you got to see the venue set up for a wedding. Its very kind of your parents to pay. my folks would love to do the same if they could afford to. But it doesnt matter as they will be helping me enough by just putting up with my bridezilla moments lol

The only wedding related stuff thats happening for us at the moment is we're doing lots of overtime at work and saving every last penny :)

This time next year I will be on my way to the church!

Thanks for all your kind words.

Nothing too much to update you with. Diane's(my beautiful wife to be) mother has been round today to offer us some money towards the wedding. Its not unfair to say that she doesn't have a lot of money and we really wasn't expecting her to offer anything. So we were both rather overwhelmed when she came round today and gave us some money.
Our venue is a hotel in Rochdale called The Norton Grange,we went to a wedding there last year and it was fantastic.
We have just received our "Save the date" cards from Vistaprint, one of their free offers which has come in really handy. Apart from that nothing much has happened.
I will update as things happen. For all you other Nov 11 brides and grooms i hope things are going well and it continues to go that way.
  • Sounds like you are all getting on well :) It's good to have parents chipping in some money, just takes some of the financial struggle off us doesn't it? My parents are putting money towards ours as well, I feel lucky that they are taking a portion of that off our shoulders.

I've not done much else wedding stuff, started working on the favours (tying bows on my Tibetan bookmarks). However... me and OH booked a holiday to New York City for April :) Means next year is definitely going to be all about the saving! I just want to see NYC before we get on the baby making and that's gonna start after we get married. So thought, why not! I have FAR too much to look forward to in 2011 that come 2012 I'm gonna be lost lol.

Hey everybody (and welcome Imber), not been around much as been running around trying to find silver stick on love hearts - how hard can it be?? Very hard it seems as I can't find what I'm looking for, I really want to make a day and evening invite to see if they will work but I don't want to until I have everything I need. Have already changed my mind on the evening one so just want it sorted.

Also, I've been trying to call a bridal shop that hires dresses. The lady is closing it down but doing it from home, but I can't get her, so I called another shop to ask if they hired and the guy told me that they sell discontinued dresses for as little as £50! I already have my Coast dress but really would like to see if I liked a more 'traditional' dress (and at the price I could have two, ha)!

Venue not contacting us til February so we've got loads of time to relax before it all kicks off again.
  • That's great about the holiday Enchantica - quite a year! We're not having any holidays until our honeymoon as we really need to save up every penny.

Swinsite - that sounds like a brilliant deal for the wedding dress. I hope you manage to find one you like.

We were at a wedding fayre on Saturday and managed to get cars organised. As I've got a bit of an entourage (3 bridesmaids, 2 page boys and a flower girl to fit in all family members!) I wanted to get a nice but big car which would take them all. We spoke to a company at the fayre, who wouldn't normally come out as far as our venue but as it is a November wedding and they expect it to be quiet, they were happy to do it and we managed to talk the manager into giving us an extra £50 off! Its a really nice silver merc, and they also provide kid seats if we want.

That means we've now got all the essential people we need for the day! Next up we're going to look for some wedding rings so that we can hopefully get them bought before the VAT increase. I also discovered that OH knows the family that own a lovely jewellers in the town we're getting married in (can't believe he never thought to tell me this - probably because he gets embarrassed when I try and squeeze extra discounts out of people!), but they have said they'll give us a good deal if we go and have a look at their rings.

  • Swinstie - what a bargain, £50?! Awesome! You can definitely afford to have 2 dresses if one is that price. Our venue aren't contacting us until early March so that will be when things kick off again for us and this thread will no doubt grow some more! I hope you manage to find your stick on hearts, ebay giving you no joy? There are so many crafty things there but not so many are sticky already, you have to glue them yourself. As I found with some little silver bows I got for my invites!

Blue - That's great about the cars and that the company will come out to where you are, and getting a discount! Very MSE ;) Hope you get a good deal on the rings too.

Talking of rings, I already have mine and have had it for over a year now lol. I got it in Disneyland Florida of all places, it is silver with diamonds in it (well, not real diamonds) and two of the diamonds have little diamonds above them (like mickey and minnie mouse). It only cost $32 but it meant a lot to me as it was bought on me and OH's first proper holiday together.

All I can say on the wedding front is: let the saving commence!

A year today Enchantica, woo hoo!

I was a year yesterday so now officially under a year - 364 days to be precise, yeah!

Well going tomorrow to look at dresses - do you think it's too early?? I'm around a 12/14 (nearer a 14) just now and although hoping to lose weight I doubt I will lose loads (nor do I want to and knowing my luck, not be able to, ha). I'd rather get one that fits just now as the Coast dress I bought is a 14 but on the small side, so I'm finding it difficult to picture myself wearing it since it looks too tight right now.

Also hoping to buy the rest of my invite stuff so will try making one soon.

Brilliant news on the cars Bluespirit, nice one on getting more money off too. As for rings, OH doesn't want to get ours just now even though I mentioned the VAT increase - the reason being is that we haven't got enough money saved to buy them so I'd be putting them on my Visa and no doubt the interest added will be as much as the VAT increase.

    Ok, so confession time!

You know how those dresses that were only £50?! Well methinks they were really tatty dresses in really strange sizes, cos I never found anything at that price. I did try on some lovely dresses though, one made me look fat (according to my niece), one made me look short, one wouldn't even do up, one had a HUGE train (was gorgeous as well) one was just horrible, then it came down to the two I did like.

My niece picked one, it actually comes up on the website so I had noticed it and like it but it was SO heavy once on. It was gorgeous but heavy and also £1015!!!

The other was gorgeous and was so comfortable (can't put a link as it was a discontinued sample dress) and lightweight. I ended up buying it - now for the confession (it was originally £2225, down to £1K but I got it for £850).

So much more than I wanted to pay but I love it. Coast won't take my other dress back so going to see if I can dye it a champagne colour for the cruise. I love it, just felt more bridal with the long dress.
