Well we have finally decided on our original venue (when our date was June 2012 - we're a fickle pair), so emailed today to check our date was available, and it is - probably cos it's Remembrance Day no-one wants it - just read another thread where the date was being slated again, unbelievable, but it suits us so we're going for it. Just need to arrange a proper viewing, have already seen it and got a rough price so will go through the details proper in a week or so then pay the deposit.

Haven't bought or done anything else, trying to decide whether to make invites, will only need about 20, or buy them from ebay. We want ones with a thistle on, I was going to try and draw them myself but not sure how 'professional' they'll look. Off to look up some wording now.....

Swinstie - It must be a relief that you have decided on a venue..., Did you look on Vista Print for invites they are usually pretty cheap.

We went looking for another venue over the weekend, I am now looking for ceremony and reception as I did cancel the other venue, I didn't want to risk it... Finding somewhere to have the ceremony is proving really hard. Because we have lovely weather they are all in parks or on the beach, but we want an inside ceremony (just to be difficult :))
My SIL recommended a venue for the reception yesterday and we drove down last night to have a quick looksee and it looks really nice from the outside and the pricing is not too bad, so fingers crossed.
I'm still googling ceremony venues
  • Swinstie - well done on deciding on the venue. I don't see any problem with the date - you could probably find something 'bad' about any date, and at the end of the day its about the 2 of you and what you want! One of my friends suggested that as we were getting married on 12/11, and we're having red flowers, we should see if the church has poppys already there to use :rotfl:

Aussiemum - good luck with your continued search. Cancelling the other venue must feel like a weight off your mind given what you'd heard about it.

Well we met with the woman doing our flowers on Saturday and mostly decided on our flowers (a fried of my dads who's giving us a good deal!). OH hasn't quite got into the money saving thing yet though, and kept suggesting doing lots of expensive things. We're getting married in the church he goes to, so we'd asked his mum to come along to help out with flowers for there as OH is hopeless at visualising these things. It ended up a really bad idea after a bit of an argument with her.

We didn't want to go for too much in the church so decided on two arrangements - one for the altar and one for the table where we sign the register, and to save a bit of cash the florist said we could move the one on the altar to our reception venue to go on the top table, and just leave the smaller arrangement for the church. All the flowers used in the reception are also going to be tied up so that we can give them to people at the end of the night to save them going to waste. Me and OH were happy with this, however MiL wanted us to use the woman at the church who does the flowers - they would charge us £200 to decorate it, regardless of what flowers we were having, and any left over would go to the church fund. We wouldn't be able to remove any of the flowers, so basically would have spent £200 (far more than the florist is charging us) to decorate the church. Given we're already paying a fee for marrying in the church we felt it was crazy to go this way, but MiL has been giving OH lots of little digs about it.

Anyway, sorry about the rant - just had to get it off my chest! On a positive note we've finally got around to arranging a little engagement gathering for our friends, which will be on the 23rd. Just waiting to hear back from a pub who have a back room they hire out for free, and hopefully will have a venue sorted.

  • Blue - That's great about your engagement gathering, that will be fun for you both :) It's a shame about the flowers and your MiL. The £200 seems like a waste of money when it really is like you are decorating the church more than anything. It's good to have an arrangement being taken back for the top table, saves a bit of money and makes a nice touch. It's also a nice idea having the flowers tied up and giving them to people, they will like that. It's not nice of your MiL to dig at your OH about it, that's being a bit silly. In the long run, it shouldn't really matter to her who you use. I say go with the money saving option.

Aussie - hopefully you will get a nice ceremony venue sorted out, just keep looking and wait til you find the perfect one. You have plenty of time. When you see it you will know. Then let us know!

Swinstie - I hope you get on well at the viewing when you go to see it. I had a look on vistaprint and they have some good deals for 40p per invite. Could be of use? Or may give you some ideas at least. http://www.vistaprint.co.uk/event/wedding.aspx?xnav=TsrItem&xnid=aLMHPNavIAWedding1Invitations+%26amp%3b+Announcements&dng=Invitations+%26amp%3b+Announcements

I went home at the weekend to my mum and dad, where my full outfit awaited me. So I tried it on, I will post a pic tonight because photobucket doesn't seem to be working for me just now. Please bear in mind I had just come off a 4 hour train journey so I don't look great :p
  • Blue - I know how you feel with family butting in but stay strong and stick to your guns! Im sure MOH just trying to be helpful but they dont realise that theyre just adding to the stress!

Aussie - fingers crossed you'll find somewhere you love soon!

Swinstie - I wouldnt pay any attention to the people who are dissing the date. Its stupid that they are saying you shouldnt get married just because its Remembrance day. They're just being trolls. good luck with booking the venue!

enchantia - I cant wait to see your dress! Im sure you look like a princess in it and dont forget its bad luck to try everything on at the same time. so its a good thing you wont look like you will do on the day :)

Has anyone booked their honeymoon yet? Where you all off too? I think ours will have to be a late deal because I checked my savings account and I only have £150 saved for the wedding

We are going to Florida for our honeymoon :) We wanted to stay in the posh animal kingdom villas but it was going to be £3k-£4k just for the villa for 10 days!! So going for the budget Disney hotel. Still nice for big kids like ourselves.

Here's my outfit. I tried it all on together as I had no idea it was bad luck! I don't believe in bad luck anyway though :p Not bad for £140.

Lovely dress Enchantica, love love love your fur shrug! I didn't know it was bad luck to try on full outfit either, so we've bad luck together as I've been swishing about in mines too! Just noticed the price, that's fab for £140, wow!

We're going on a Caribbean cruise for our honeymoon, was our pre-booked holiday anyway so taking advantage of it being booked. Will be weird having my sister and her man there though, ha! Actually not as weird as me, my mum and dad being on my eldest sister's honeymoon with her (not as bad as it sounds, she lives in Canada and we were out for the wedding - I was only 14 at the time).

Great planning everyone, we're going to see the venue properly next Saturday so fingers crossed we will be paying our first deposit.

Beautiful dress Enchantica, I love your shrug too.
I too had no idea is was bad luck....

Blue - Your right it's a huge relief, but I am still waiting for my deposit... I think I will email her today

I'm taking a few days off from looking for venues, we need to decide wether we would be happy with an outdoor ceremony site seems as we can't find an indoor one.

We're going to England for our family honeymoon, alot of my family can't afford to come to Oz and my grandparents can't make such a long flight so we will be having a second celebration with everyone. And my mum is coming also :) which will be handy as she can look after our son when we go over to Paris for a few days. We're having a bridal registry at a flight centre to help pay for our tickets and we are saving our butts off for our spends

Your outfit looks fantastic Enchantica. I'd no idea trying it all on was bad luck either!

I'm hoping MiL will change her mind about the flowers as last night OH told me she'd changed her mind about our choice of entertainment! We are having a ceilidh band and then a DJ afterwards, and she was dead set against it, telling us we should have a 'proper' band. Now apparently she's really looking forward to it! Madness!!!

Swinstie - good luck at the venue on Saturday!

We're planning on the Maldives for our honeymoon. Friends were there a few years ago, and after seeing the pics I've been desperate to go over since! Nothing is booked yet though.

suits we are going we greenwoods, as they have n offer for £79 all inclusive, including cufflinks etc,
