  • Can i ask you guys what your family and friends reaction when you all told them that you was getting married in november?

Im just asking because I'm so fed up of people moaning so much about the fact its not a summer wedding and that it will be cold and wet. Its not an outside wedding for petes sake! Its inside where theres a little invention called central heating! I could have it in the peak of summer, pay loads more for it and it could still p*** it down.

All I'm asking is for one day of their lives, not even that actually just 9 little hours. I feel like screaming 'wear a coat and bring a brolly' ya'know? problem solved!

    rant over :rotfl:

    I'm with you MissStellerstar,

Know what you mean, people expect weddings to be in summer, considering I'm from Scotland, we don't even get a summer! I've bought myself a nice fur shrug, actually hoping it is cold so I can wear it.

And for those of you who are wondering why I'd be wearing a shrug on a beach in Barbados, you're right to wonder! Our plans have changed, found out that our flight is not arriving until 2pm on the Friday and the magistrates where we need to apply for the licence in person, closes at 3.15pm, so we have no hope of getting there on time. There might be time if we rush but we can't take the chance, had a fab wedding planner as well who was going to organise a lovely little beach do, totally gutted.

On a more positive note, we've decided to marry the week before 11/11/11, registry office then a nice family meal, probably about 15 in total. We were going to just go out in town afterwards and ask other friends to meet us for a drink, but my niece and nephew will be there (underage) so not sure what to do now.

Love the venue Enchantica - didn't even know The Caves existed in Edinburgh.
  • We announced ours in Feb/March this year and the reaction was a bit like you're getting Miss Stellerstar and Swinstie !

We're from Newcastle and it seems to just rain here all summer we felt at the time as we were taking a risk on the weather if we had it in summer then why not just make it for our favourite time of year and be warm and cosy and dry instead :) 6 months later pretty much everyone is happy with it.

Our venue does the open log fire thing in the rooms and it is just so up our street.

I've been cake tasting today the woman I met is an amazing designer of cakes so unique and very very tasty definately going to book her I'm feeling so excited at the moment lol I'm like a kid honestly I am.

Enchantica - your venue is amazing will be truly unforgettable.

Miss S - I'm not concerned about my MOH thing anymore I feel like a weight has been lifted tbh the only bad thing about it is that she's my sister and now not speaking to me :( I'm sure in time she will come round but it couldn't go on any longer she was making things a complete nightmare tbh I love her of course and I would have loved to have had her as part of my day but she's said some really bad things to me so I think I made the right decision we may be blood related but that doesn't give her the right to treat me like dirt ...................

Anyhow anyone got any appointments or anything related to the wedding this weekend ? I did the cake thing today and waiting for my dress to arrive early next week so excited I could burst !! lol

    xx

  • Miss Stellerstar - I hadn't paid a deposit so there was no probs there

Miss Stellerstar, Swinstie and Poppy - I can't believe your family and friends are acting like that, how awful for you, as if planning a wedding isn't stressful enough.

Swinstie - Is the 11/11/11 meant to be good luck?? I think I heard somewere it is :)

Poppy - Yay! on the cake, what have you decided to get?

November here is spring, but we picked our date because its the day we got together all those years ago,the day we get married is 15 years together!!!
Intially we were looking into having a winter wedding because it was cheaper
We decided this week to come to England for our honeymoon :j
I'm so excited - I get to see everyone, they said they are going to plan a big party for us
I can stop stressing now about family not being able to come over Perth for the wedding

Okay so the wedding coordinator finally got back to me about the ceremony they want to put my minimum spend up to $12000  So i told her thanks but no thanks, it looks like i might have found somewhere OH and I are going to have a look next week. I'll keep you posted

I didn't know 11/11/11 was a lucky day, so googled it, but found a forum where people were being slated for picking this date as it's Remembrance Day! I know in the UK, Remembrance Sunday is the 13th but technically it is the 11th, they were being slated for being disrespectful, which we are definitely not being. Does this mean that people shouldn't marry on Sept 11th, April 15th 2012 (hundred years since The Titanic sank) etc. My cousin's hubby died years on Valentines Day, is she never meant to celebrate this day if she meets anyone else?!

Sorry just a wee rant, was excited about our date - none of our family have been appalled about it so that's good enough for me.

On a positive note, is anyone having any themes at all? My colours are purple and lilac and was thinking because it's near Christmas that I was going to have some baubles in vases as part of our decorations. Is it too early to have a Christmassy/Winter theme do you think?
  • It annoys me when people think certain dates are disrespectful to have a celebration on, if you actually look at a calendar to find ALL the dates that tragedies have happened on then we can pretty much score out the whole year lol. Have your wedding whenever you want, if people want to get all weird about it then they can. They can just miss out on the fun :D Glad that no-one you know has been appalled though.

We have been asked by a few people 'why November?' The reason is that my parent's own a business and they can close it for a weekend or so in the winter but if they close in summer (the height of the season for their business) then they will lose a good lot of money. And with the recession etc the business has taken a hit so money is important for them to keep going because they are a small local business. I had originally wanted an August wedding but then we decided on November and go for a winter theme. Which I actually really like now because it fits in well with our gothic venue.

I love the idea of a winter theme with snowflakes, silvers and blues, maybe even a christmas song at the reception :p I don't think it's too early to add in some christmas feeling to your wedding if that is what you like, I started getting christmas party flyers from companies in June!!! I was like hmmm... is that maybe a BIT early to send me christmas party invites?! They were from the local hotels looking to get work christmas parties booked. So yeah, November really isn't too early!

We are looking to have this wedding cake: http://www.englishcheesecake.com/shop/product/id/107
Mail order cheesecake!! It's £395... I was looking to have a small simple cheap cake but my mum wants us to have a big proper cake. And since OH doesn't like normal cake he wants cheesecake. Mum and dad have offered to pay for it since they want us to have it :) I want it NOW. Like just for the weekend to sit and eat the whole time. They have smaller ones to mail order... it is SO tempting to order one (cheapest £20!) and eat it on a Saturday night in front of a good movie and a cuppa hot chocolate... lol.

Swinstie - that's shame that the beach wedding hasn't worked out but you will still have an awesome time :)

I am a bit weird in that I would quite like to carry one of my rats down the aisle LOL. I am a rat rescuer (well, I adopt them from the shelter and keep them, I don't rehome them to anyone else) and have 9 little darlings. My oldest, Bear, is who I would love to carry down in a little basket but I think it would be too controversial. And stressful on him... and he probably won't be here unfortunately next year. I don't think I would really do it, the tuxedo would be too expensive. :p

Swinstie - Don't apologise about having a rant... I completely forgot that it was Remembrance Day, I agree with Enchantica, those who love you won't mind and those that mind can't love you.
I'm learning weddings are the same as having kids EVERYONE has an opinion !!

Enchantica - I love the idea of a winter theme, lots of people include their pets in wedding, my brother in law had photo's before the ceremony with his dog :)

My colours are tiffany blue, french blue and yellow.
I'm thinking yellow and white flowers with a tiffany blue ribbon around them. I'm only having a MOH so I think I might put her in the french blue. Our neice is going to be a flower girl - you put flower girls in white right ?
I was thinking of having cup cakes with a small cutting cake and everyone can take one home instead of favors.
Hope everyone had a nice weekend, it's a bank holiday here tomorrow Yay :)
  • I LOVE your colours Aussiemum, they will go so well together. Tiffany blue is gorgeous. I have seen a Tiffany box cake somewhere, that was awesome. You can put flower girls in any colour really, I think the ones I have seen have mostly been in white but some match in with the bridesmaids. Your wedding so you decide :) May be easier to get off the rack dresses in white though. That's a good idea about cupcakes as favours. They would be lovely. I LOVE cupcakes. Nom. I really want one now... or two...

I had a dream last night that it was the day of the wedding and I hadn't booked the Humanist who was doing our wedding! I had completely forgot! And I hadn't done the invites (everyone was there though) or the bouquets. Cue me running around trying to find a Humanist to do our wedding, including going to my old primary school teacher's house lol. Then I woke up IN the dream and had 2 weeks to go til the wedding. And it got to the wedding day again and I still hadn't done anything. I really want to get on with my invites now haha.
  • Omg I have had 2 wedding nightmares since I've been engaged, I wake up so stressed from them. One was where my MIL had organised everything for us but it was all wrong - no flowers ect dress the wrong size... The funny thing is my MIL is really nice and we get along really well :P
  • I had my first dream about the wedding last night, it was more strange than a nightmare. It was that my sister had got pregnant and I made her sell her baby on the car boot because there wasnt anyone to look after it during the wedding.

Just to note I condemn the selling of babies :)
