I think what you would need to prove is that you can financially support your mum. She would not have recourse to public funding.... Their words not mine...:o I think the NHS would still be free at the point of use, but again unsure... If you feel like this start asking the questions ... Ring border control, immigration and see what they say... I feel so sorry for you, you work hard, love your partner... it really is quite ridiculous in this day and age.. that your o/h is not seen as your spouse in law... crazy....x0

Hugs honey, I can totally understand how you feel now DM has gone home, especially given her current circumstances. I always hate it when DD goes back to Oz and I know she stresses over it possibly being the last time she'll see my DM.
Look into the immigration rules to see if you get DM over here, best to know what you are faced with so you look into tackling the problem.

Thanks all I will have a look around the immigration sites.
Today President Obama has be re-inaugurated into office for his 2nd term as President. He says that he will pass the gay marriage law. I hope that is true and he does it too. If we could go back to America that would be ideal because 1. My mom has a hugely generous pension and private medical for the rest of her life. 2. I work for an American company and they have been pressurising me to move back to the New York area for 2 years. 3. If I brought my Mom here we would have to move to a bungalow (which is ok but will take some time)
LAM I came into the country on a visa that I thinks no longer exists called an HSMP Visa (Highly Skilled Migrant Programme) I did my time on that having it renewed 3 times before I got ILR) and then just got my British passport in 2012. At the time I came into the UK there was no civil partnership here either.
Just need to get my debts sorted out and I also will call an immigration attorney Monday and see if anything can be done.Mortgage: £280,752/ £262,515.84

'Morning NewLeaf, :hello:
So Mom managed to avoid the cancellations and delays at Heathrow? Well, it's good that her journey wasn't complicated by the weather, but a shame you didn't get a bit more time with her on this visit.
Good luck with investigating possibilities for Mom to return - I hope you can find a way to make it work and will be keeping fingers crossed for you.0 -
Glad your Mum got back OK. It's a good idea to take some advice, at least then you have a sound basis on which to plan.
Have you heard from the accountant yet about the findings on their assessment of your stuff? Give them a shove as you need to make sure the deadline for payments is made (sorry to keep on about this, but under UK law even if you have a professional doing this for you, the liability still rests with you as the tax payer)
How would your beloved feel about relocating to the USA? If it is possible.

I did hear from the accountant. I could have had a deduction of £3/week last year for working from home. apparently doing all the calculation about what % of heat and electric etc were used is a pain and makes the HMRC want to audit you. He told me it was smart to get rid of the company car.
I Still owe £6,600
OH : he worked some magic with her rental property and she owes
£2,560
He filed everything on Friday so no late penalty.
OH re moving to the USA. She likes the USA, I moved here for her and spent 10 years, I think it is only fair that we trade it up a bit.Mortgage: £280,752/ £262,515.84

Hi All, so the total tax figure for both OH and myself £16760. I basically want to die. We are each paying £85 a week to tax but at this rate they will come and take everything to pay the tax off. I am going to have to figure out what I can sell ifI have any bonds left to get rid of this asap.

Such a shame that you have to use your refurb money, but on the other hand it may be a good move to stop feeling 'like you want to die'
If the plans work out with the USA then perhaps the refurb isn't necessary anyway??

Hey Lucky thanks for the hugs!
I think the America thing will take at least 12 months to actualise. (fingers crossed)
The refurb was meant to be for something that you are right probably wont be needed if the America situation comes to bear.Mortgage: £280,752/ £262,515.84
