Well Mom is gone and I am washing her sheets, pyjamas and dressing gown. I feel really down. At our ages (I was a late in life baby) I always wonder if the time that I am seeing her will be the last time.

We would live in America but America doesn't recognise gay marriage so I would have to leave my spouse of 10 years here. It's a terrible position to be in.

I can never get my head around the American politicians fear of gay marriages... I have never been to America, (would love to go)... Is it a very religious country is that the reason? I would have thought with Obama in power it would have become more Liberal?
I think I understand what you mean about the worry of wondering if it will be the last time you see your mum. My dad is 80 this year, my mam was 76.. It is not morbidity just fear.. My mum`s fear of death is making her more depressed as time goes on... That is why I come down and try to be a ray of sunshine for a couple of weeks... positive and smiley... but it is very draining....!!:) We also take care of my Uncle while we are down here.. he is nearly blind. We went out for dinner the other day and he nearly fell twice just getting into the pub !! He is so fiercely independent, but it is a constant worry taking him out lol...!! Between the three of them and the numerous little jobs they all need doing the o/h and I will need a bloody holiday when we get home:rotfl:
My uncle is on dialysis, nearly blind, recently got over bowel cancer.. and has just returned from holidaying with his friends who live in the states... even though he had to have dialysis over there he is amazing and never moans about his health....

bast you totally get it then. It's hard work but I think us being so far away from each other is having a worsening effect on her.

Woke up this morning to my older dog bleeding from the mouth. The last time he had this it was an abcess and he ended up having lots of teeth removed. this seems to be the same so off to the vet we go.

Also, OH taxes just got submitted so I need to add another £2,560 to the total above.

Hugs NL - you must be feeling very empty today. I used to hate it when my mom came to visit and had to return. Also used to worry if she would make another long haul flight back to visit. Luckily I now have her here and can take better care of her.

Hope your doggie is ok xx

LAM.. thanks for understanding. Did you somehow manage to get your Mom a visa for the UK? I have citizenship now, I wonder if I could get her a visa.

Oldest dog back from vet. He had a big piece of tartar and his gum was inflamed. Vet got the tatar off with foreceps (it must have been very hard!)

Anyway lost -3lbs this week so one positive to my signature.

Have tights on under my clothes, I think it is freezing. x

Well done on the weight loss.

I was South African - so was mom although grandmother british. The rule used to be only if father had british passport could the children obain one. I did an ancestry visa - served my time - handed over shed loads of money and now have my british citizenship. Been here 13 years now. about 4 years ago they changed rules between certain dates that if the mother had british passport - child could obtain so we applied and it was granted to mother. But as she has never worked here (well she did a few years as a teenager and then again later in life) she is not entitled to any benefits or pension so she lives off her small private pension and supplemented by me.

Worth looking at the home office site to check out various visa applications - you may be able to get her here as a dependent of you if she has no other family over there. I tried that initially with my mom but because she had a sister still there they said no. Ridiculous as sister was older, frail and had no money - how should / could she support my mom.

They change regs all the time though so have a good dig around on the site.
