Don't forget that 3% is on TURNOVER, not profit, so if true the figure is HUGE, HUMONGOUS and morally disgusting.I spelt my username wrongly on purpose, by the way!0 -

Maths was never my strongest subject so I am happy to be corrected but on T/O of 17.4 BILLION in six months , I believe that would equate to an overcharge figure of £500 MILLION, and OVER ONE BILLION POUNDS on full year T/O....I spelt my username wrongly on purpose, by the way!0

Complaints of overcharging still levelled at Tesco
by Linda McGrory
THE Office of the Director of Consumer Affairs continues to receive complaints about alleged overcharging by supermarket giant Tesco.
Tesco Ireland apologised to customers in March following a survey by retail watchdog RGDATA, showing customers had paid too much for certain products because advertised discounts were not passed on at the point of sale.
However, a spokesperson for Consumer Affairs Director, Carmel Foley said last night the office continued to receive complaints on an ongoing basis about alleged overcharging by the supermarket.
A Tesco spokesperson said the company would not comment on recent allegations in light of the upcoming court hearing.
Tesco will appear in the District Court next month to answer the claims of overcharging which arise from an RGDATA survey carried out between St. Patrick's Day and March 19, 1999.
Over the two day period, RGDATA sent two researchers to six Tesco premises in Wicklow and Dublin following a complaint to the organisation by a customer.
In every case, researchers were overcharged for certain key grocery items ranging from 1% to almost 10% in some cases.
Average overcharging was 3%, a figure estimated by RGDATA to equate to about £33_3 million of the superchain's annual Irish turnover.
Tesco Ireland faces prosecution for breach of the Consumer Information Act, under a section outlawing false prices on products.
Since the scandal was highlighted in March, Ms Foley's office conducted extensive investigations into the allegations made by RGDATA.
RGDATA director general, Mr Michael Campbell said last night he was concerned price inaccuracies may still exist at Tesco supermarkets.

Estimated illegal overcharge for the UK: 15 times that, works out at
£ 499,500,000.
Looks like we concur on the estimated overcharge figure!
Edit: Actually, no, my estimate was for 6 months, whereas yours is for 12.
Chief executive Sir Terry Leahy said there was "strong progress" from all parts of the group as more customers "vote with their feet and shop with us". Its core UK business saw sales increase by 10.2%, to £17.4bn, with trading profits ahead by 10.5% to £904m.
3% of £17.4 BILLION is £500 MILLION...isn't it? In six months. Staggering. So ONE BILLION in 12 months. What a great headline THAT would make...I spelt my username wrongly on purpose, by the way!0 -

I know, but its so frustrating when managers try to come up with all excuses under the sun to wriggle out. If 69.99 had been the discounted price then the original price would have had some very odd pence at the end (my maths wont let me work out what figure - 10% give 69.99) which none of the phones are advertised at.
Oh by the way I took MyUserName's advice and it appears more hopeful. This CS Manager has gone to speak to the store0
