Exactly - I only ever had one serious R&R (PSP last week :D ) and I was in my work suit, extra smart, and I'm sure it intimidates THEM, rather than the other way round. Particularly if you keep very cool and extra polite.

Ahh so that's where I've been going wrong

I've R&R'ed in all kinds of outfit;) mostly at weekends if you catch my drift, the only thing I've found helps is manners.

  • I was in my local Tesco last night (Dungannon). Saw the new "10% off ALL PAYG mobile phones" promotion. The shelf was littered with a mix of white SEL and Yellow POS. There was no logical pattern to them as many of the full price while SELs scanned with 10% off the shelf price, apart from a Tesco Sony Ericsson K300i (SEL 44.97 scanned 44.97) and a Virgin Motorola L6 (SEL69.99 scanned 69.99). Purchased one of Motorola for OH and 2 of Sony for kids Xmas.

When I raised the matter with CS i accompanied CS to shelf and pointed out error. Had to wait for totally disinterested junior manager. She then tried to bluff me with that the prices on the SEL were the discounted prices. She would not/could not understand my point that if that was the case I had still been overcharged as this was the only price advertised. She went off to "check" and came back to confirm that yes these were the discounted prices. Then asked her to check other white SEL-ed phones to seeif the 10% was deducted and lo and behold it was deducted at the till. My phones were the only ones where the discount didnt come off.

Asked at what price the Motorola had been previously advertised. "Well it's £70 now so 10% of 70 is 7 so it was £77. (Doh) "Can you confirm that it was £77?" "Yes Thats what the system said". "Oh ok if it was advertised at £77 then 10% of 77 is 7.70 leaving the discounted price 69.69. Still and overcharge!!" But still no go. Then she admitted phones werent her area of expertise (that was petrol) but would not accept that there was no difference in principle between petrol and mobile fones!! Only option leave my name and number come back tomorrow. NO WAY. Asked if i could take a pic of the offending SELs but "No that was against the law" (which law it was against we weren't quite sure). Then offered the option of the night shift manager. Waited 10mins for his shift to start.

His opening gambit was to support her bluff that these were the discounted prices. He was adamant that I had not been overcharged, that the white SEL reflected the store book price less 10%. I asked for evidence of the store book price. Both went off to check and appeared back with ...wait for it.... a yellow POS  for the Sony that had £44.97 as the reduced price (reduced from 57.xx a lot more than 10%), which proved that yes it was the discounted price but I still maintained I had been misled. I expected 10% off the SEL and I didnt get it. But he maintained that I had not been overcharged as this was the discounted price. (In the meantime Junior began removimg ALL the remaining white SEL from the shelf) When I asked why this was happening she sarcastically:rolleyes: replied "to stop other people getting confused". ) Wish now I had sense to take him to the policy which says that "if you are charged more than the shelf price.......".

OK so we were getting nowhere with the Sonys so said I would take that up with HO. I then asked for evidence of the higher selling price-the mysterious £77 - for the L6. Off they went again but surprise surprise couldnt find any evidence of this (A system error!!!!!! !!!!!! ) but that he would R&R this one as a gesture of goodwill!!!!! Bringing me back to CS he asked for my name "just in case HO phone him" "JUST IN CASE!!!" Bet your bottom dollar sunshine. He then directed CS to refund 69.99 and "you'll be putting this gentlemans name in the Refunds book, wont you (meaningful stare at CS who gave a blank -what does that mean - look in return) Obviously no such book exists.

So am onto HO this morning for the first time. How do you think I'll get on? Have I a strong enough case.

Sorry this is so long but it is a summary of almost 1 1/2 hour session.

re - the discount when you buy phone (vodaphone/virgin) and e voucher not kicking in.

I purchased the above CS and manager refused r+r, offered £10 e voucher (phone was less than £50)..Refused offer.
Phoned HO, explained poster was up after expired date, and clearly stated "off handset".
Had phone call to collect FULL refund (both items from store).
No quibble no story - just facts.....job done.
Suggest you all try same - stick to facts rather than some elaborate secret method.
Fight the fight if your refused !!!!.

you were VERY lucky on that then as loads of people have been refused on this...the method i use is not a mad up one and doesnt confus anyone.

Here it is then....you'l kick yourselves when you see it...

"Say the poster was still up and very misleading as the * is only next to the £10 offer and not by the £20 offer... also in the small print where is says "offer" well there is 2 offers so it should say "offerS" as it say "offer" then looks like it only applies to the bottom offer..thats why you bought the 1st offer!

Dont mention this though just act dumb and the poster was still up so you believe the top offer was still in place.

Hopefully you bought an expensive moby and £20 airtime that is!!

I did fight the fight.. 2hours of it actually.. even went to another store and asked there managers opinion and he said "he would have refunded it..and went back to the same store in the morning and still no joy..its only when i pointed out the * an S they refunded..and many others have had this problem but as soon as this * an S has been mentioned by us they throw the towel in and we win by Knockout in the 12th Round last 10 seconds!!

    cheque and ban to follow

I shouldn't think so as I had a letter of appology first and the store involved had been warned by their attitude. So dont think they'll do that..be very surprised i they do..very!
  • Just been on to HO. They are supporting the manager:eek: What I do now?
