You know I was tempted to get out the BBQ, but I just can't brave this cold!

It depends how thick the steaks are but if you like them rare you won't need any more than 3 minutes each side. Had some lovely thick, bloody sirloin the other day.
We all evolve - get on with it

We're BBQing lovely sirloins at the moment with nandos extra hot peri peri sauce :D I know it's freezing outside but you can't beat the taste of BBQ meat :j

We use our gas bbq outside to cook steak on, and other meat for that matter all year round!

Hotlegs you're not the only ones to cook outside in the freezing cold, our neighbours think we're mad but it does make the steak / meat taste so good!!! :D

Rare for me too please! :p

Introduce the steak to the heat for about a nanosecond each side.
If a good vet can revive it its cooked to perfection.
  • Oh I forgot to say-make sure you leave it out of the fridge for a good hour or so to come to room temperature, so you don't have cold bits inside steak!
  • I also do the hot pan, flash fry and eat it rare.
But, I marinate it first in a bit of veg oil and a dash of low salt soy sauce.
Freshly ground balck pepper over it and
    Divine.

Steaks should take 10 minutes including resting time. 2 minutes each side then rested for 6 is normally rare on an inch thick steak. Add/subtract time to your liking but make sure once you add resting time it adds up to 10 minutes.

Also as above posters say. It needs to be at room temperature. Oil the steak not the pan if using a griddle. Hottest pan you can manage. Don't forget to add salt when its cooking.

Edit: Here is a stop watch to do the timing!

Seal it, make a tinfoil parcel and throw a whack of butter in and salt and pepper. COok for ten minutes in the oven - then put back in and cook to your liking IYKWIM. Falls apart in the mouth and is delicious! I doubted it until i tasted it. Mmmmmmmdrooling-2.gif, damn you. I want steak now.
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

Hey everyone, just to let you know I fried it in a super hot pan with just a little olive oil and seasoned with my salt/pepper/seasoning grinder. Literally a minute or so each side, then on hot plates along with the spuds and mushrooms - it was absolutely delicious! Pink in the middle, tender and juicy! Yum!!!!
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.
