  • We had steak tonight. OH cooks it and is always gorgeous!

Normally have Sirloin about 3/4" thick and he cooks for 2.5mins each side as we like medium rare. Slices like butter and melts in the mouth. He always puts a little oil in the frying pan, puts on a hot heat then wipes the excess with a paper towel.

Serve with salad, chips, buttered mushrooms and garlic bread.

    Yummy!!

    xx

Thanks for all the tips, managed to make a gorgeous, succulent steak tea for myself and OH tonight, after using your guides.

I seemed to have forgotton how to properly cook steak some time ago...:o, it was consistently leathery.

Not tonight though, mouth meltingly lovely, even my OH (not known for his culinary gushing) nodded and said it was really nice.....so thanks again.:D:T

I'm cooking sirloin steak tonight, and wanted to know what people think is the best way to cook it?

I've got 3 options grill (gas), pan fry it or pop it in the George Foreman.

I normally grill, but just wanted to know if people prefer a different method of cooking it.

    thank you.

  • Pan fry!
Get the pan hot, season the steak, rub with oil (or put a little in the pan, I prefer to rub with oil) stick the steak in, leave it be, flip over after 2mins (less if not that thick, more of you like it well done/medium, personally I like it rare!) cook other side the same, remove to rest and deglaze the pan with some booze. Yummy steak with sauce :D
Serve with some green veg and spuds of some kind (I really like potato gratin with steak :))
  • Get the frying pan screamingly hot. It's worth the nerves as the slightly smokey 'finish' of the steak is lovely.

  • Pan fry and finish in the oven. Times depending on thickness of course but a very hot pan and then maybe 4 minutes on gas mark 5 ish.
And if, you know, your history...

Cool sounds like fry is the way to go! We like our steak rare so, I don't think it will take too long so long as I remember to get the pan nice and hot!

I got the steak as part of the M&S 2 can dine for £10 so have dauphinoise potatoes to go with it, and I have mushrooms in the fridge all ready to fry too.

I managed to get the Irish coffees which my dad will love as part of his Christmas prezzie, so a great bargain for £10 so long as I don't mess up cooking the steak! :D

You know I was tempted to get out the BBQ, but I just can't brave this cold!
