  • You know I was tempted to get out the BBQ, but I just can't brave this cold!

How about using the George foreman.....an indoor BBQ .
Whichever way you go with leave the steak at room temperature for about an hr or so, and rub with oil and lots of seasoning before cooking.
    Good luck and enjoy.:D

    Hi kitschkitty,

I'm glad you enjoyed the steak. I'll add this to the main thread on cooking steak which has lots of advice and recipes to keep the suggestions together.

    Hi Doelani

Now wishing I hadn't opened this thread as I want steak now :D

What i do, is flash fry (or seal) for around a min each side in a hot pan. Then i make a little tinfoil parcel, put in some butter and pepper, seal it up and put it in the oven for 180ish. I'm never very good at knowing how long it takes as i like mine kind of incinerated ( i know:o, it's the blood), so I would recommend you check it after 10 mins and then put back to cook to your liking. It's always lovely and tender this way jump1.gif

Sorry, I don't have a lean mean grilling machine, so can't comment on that.

There is a whole thread about how people cook their steaks so have a read of it and I will add your thread to that one later

    thanks

  • If you use a frying pan, Heat the pan on the hob on a medium heat, add about one tablespoon of oil, season the steak, and cook for about 4 mins on one side then cook it for 3 mins on the other side. Leave it to rest, on a warmed plate, for a further 5 mins in a warm oven.
Is you like rare steak reduce the time.

I remember my Mum years ago cooking sirloin steaks covered in thick onion slices, in tinfoil in the oven. They used to come out very tender. She used to get them from a local butcher so I have no doubt the poor excuse of a steak I bought from Tesco will just not be the same but I'd like to give the tinfoil thing a go anyway. :D

Trouble is....I have no idea how long to cook a steak this way for? Or at what heat? :o

Was it rare when it came out or more like braised. If it's more the cooked through braised option my grandma did something simular, but in a baking dish covered in foil.
Flash fry steaks, season with salt and pepper, layer raw onion at bottom, add steaks, top with more raw onion, add a small amount of beef stock, cover with foil and bake at 200oc for 1 -1 1/2 hours.
