Could you make pea and ham soup with them? Maybe fry off a small onion in a little bit of oil, get a thick slice of ham and chop it up, add that to the onion, cook off a bit then add the peas and a little stock, salt and pepper? I don't know what's allowed with slimming world but you could possibly add a diced potato too when you're cooking off the ham, just to make it a bit more substantial.

Freeze them, they'll just need a stir when you defrost them.

One of my favourites recipes I cook a lot is Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall's Macaroni Peas.It is gorgeous and real comfort food and although I usually use Petit Pois I am sure Mushy Peas would work fine. I think Jack Monroe did some thing similar as well.

  • Hope I am in right place, I am currently on the slimming world plan and decided to give mushy pea's a whirl tonight, with egg, goodish thick cut chips for a treat (none fried)

    1. Because a tin of mushy pea's can be cheap.. (ah ha!)
    2. Because it's a slimming world 'speed food'..
    3. I live on my own and there is no way I'm eating a whole tin, even if I can, while I hate to see wasted food.. :D

so I'm looking for inspiration for my next meal.. do you think pasta with these pea's would mix? only cause I remember a martin recipe from Thrifty ways for modern days book that used to go down well of baked beans, pasta and grated cheese on top so thinking along these lines..:)

    Ta x
i'm on SW too, I love mushy peas. I put them on Jacket tatties. I melt a Laughing Cow Cheese Light {1.5 syns)on the tattie then pour on the hot peas. Really filling and tasty.

I'd do the egg/chips again for the second half of the peas.
  • Jack Monroe has done a pasta and mushy peas dish, see here:

Haven't tried it myself so can't comment but a lot of her stuff is pretty yummy!!

with half a tin of mushy peas I would definitely make Pea and Ham soup. or just Pea soup.............add enough water to make a 'soupy' consistency and I would prob add a stock cube too. a little black pepper and maybe a knob of butter. I have done this with a couple of tins of mushy peas when down the caravan, and used a tinned ham (chunked) to make a hearty soup.
  • Mushy Pea Curry (syn free)
2 tins of mushy peas, 1 tin of chopped tomatoes, 1 tin of baked beans, Onion – chopped, Garlic, Mushrooms – sliced, Curry powder
Fry onion & garlic in fry light, then add mushrooms. When cooked, add mushy peas, baked beans , chopped tomatoes and curry powder to taste. Heat through and serve. It sounds horrible but it is surprisingly yummy!

Genuine question so apologies if this sounds snarky, but is thinspiration a mainstream, ok-to-use word now?

It's a word I associate strongly with pro-anorexia forums, used by anorexics spurring each other on to lose more and more weight. It's the sort of term I would seriously not want to google for fear of the things I might see.

I agree. I don't know if I am being too sensitive but 'thinspiration' is surely linked to Pro Eating Disorder websites.
