I love the Faggoty Pea Stew on the Grocery challenge recipe collection.

It says to use processed peas but I've been using mushy successfully.

My Tesco is selling the faggots at 74p a pack on their half price offers. I got 10 packs as we love them. :)

In Wales, Faggots and mushy peas is a popular dish yummy and I have taken full advantage of the Tesco offer and they taste very nice, also at the moment 6 brains faggots are on offer at Tesco for £1

For anyone thinking of trying these recipes: I paid just 74p for packets of 6 Brains faggots in Tesco today!! Plus side was when I got home they'd just defrosted enough for me to cut them into portions of 4. So that's going to be about 50p spent on the meat for a meal for DH and I plus our Aldis mushy peas and then the very expensive potatoes!!! I might even splash out on some onions to go with it!:D

Just been to local Ald*, 4p a tin there so stocked up on a few.

:D I had to laugh in Aldi today. Whilst I was putting my shopping in the trolley, the assistant at the till moved the next persons shopping forward. It was only 5 tins so easy to do. As I was walking away he rang the shopping up and said "20p please", :T

    A fellow OS'er I'm sure

I think you're probably right. They're just junk food as far as I'm concerned but that doesn't stop me enjoying them occasionally! And I'll enjoy them even more at 74p a pack!:D

Last time i ordered them from tesco on line they had gone up to 12p!

Yes, they were 12p in Bangor today. Was going to get a few tins for DS but didn't bother.

Sold out in my Aldi's today. It'll be interesting to know what price new stock is.

Does anyone know why mushy peas have suddenly become dirt cheap?

I agree, they probably are :D
I like mushy peas too occasionally, but let's face it, they are not the healthiest of foods either, not like proper peas, but for 4p they are cheaper than a lot of junk food I'd be eating....
Processed Peas (95%), Water, Sugar, Salt, Colours, (Carotenes, Copper Chlorophyll Complex).

Someone said on here last night that the famous 4p peas are now 3p.
I am a veteran of the 'baked bean wars' of the late 1980s (possibly early 90s), and I remember that this is the price to which they eventually fell.

Take one tin of mushy peas,1/2 tin of baked beans, cup full of frozen peas & a teaspoonful of mint sauce. Bung in a pan, mix, heat & serve!
    You're advocating eating uncooked peas?
