Someone said on here last night that the famous 4p peas are now 3p.

I use them for soup with whatever veges are there, onions; toms; carrots; potatoes, anything that is there with some herbs, then whizzed up with the hand blender.

Like both the soup recipes above.

Must try this but I should think you can fry a little chopped onion and then add mushy peas and enough potato purls ( instant mashed potato) to make a stiffish mix (will take a little while for the purls to absorb moisture so add slowly). or mix dryish HM mash potato with the peas.

Then make and fry potato and pea cakes. Serve with bacon or top with eggs?

Spiced mash potato (with cumin) made into potato cakes is a genuine Indian recipe, so I am only adapting that. Top those with some well fried onion and a little mustard seed popped for a more interesting texture.

  • I love the Faggoty Pea Stew on the Grocery challenge recipe collection.

It says to use processed peas but I've been using mushy successfully.

My Tesco is selling the faggots at 74p a pack on their half price offers. I got 10 packs as we love them. :)

    Quorn, Pea and Potato Pie:

Fry chopped onion, carrots and garlic until soft. Add quorn pieces and fry for a couple of minutes. Add worcestershire sauce (vegetarain if you like), veg stock and cook for 5 minutes. Season. Add tin mushy peas, warm through.

Put in dish and top with mashed potato and grated cheese. Cook in oven til browned.

Sounds disgusting, is actually very nice.

  • this has inspired me to try & make some soup from them as I have a few tins that never get used

I was just thinking could you add a tin to any soup/stew/curry just to thicken & add a bit of veg/bulk out etc?

12p in our Tesco as well (don't think they ever went down to 4p)

Anyway - there are lots of slimming world recipes that use mushy peas as they're a superspeed food. Mushy pea curry sounds gross but is actually really nice.
