what to make with over 1.5kg of mushy peas?

Hi all

I have a catering size pack of frozen mushy peas - to make up they need soaking and boiling with water for 30 minutes.....there is bicarb of soda already added to them..

They have been in the freezer since we had a pie and peas supper for OH"s birthday nearly a year ago!

I want to use them all up soon!

Any ideas for how to use them up ?

  • When I was doing slimming world (all of a week of it lol) I heard about people having mushy pea curry! I think the recipe might be on the slimming world board over on health and beauty section? If not, if you google it, it should come up

  • I think I would make up a large batch of pea and ham/bacon soup. Add a couple of chopped onions to the mix for added flavour. Any leftovers could be frozen for another meal.

so do you think pea soup will work with mushy peas? I have only ever made it with dried split peas....

i do live pea and ham soup - so will probably give it a go....

i do have some gammon's hanging around in the freezer too...better go and have a root around the bottom layer!

  • If you soak and cook them you can then refreeze them in portion sizes and have "instant " mushy peas onn standby.
  • Green pease pudding?

    hi

yes this is what i did with the other catering size bag that was left over from the party - but we are a bit mushy pead out now as we had pie and mushy peas once a week for over 2 months to use up the leftover pies and first leftover bag of peas....

OH had his birthday party on one of the most snowy weekends of the year last winter and as we live high in the hills, a lot of people could not make it, so we had lots of pies and bags of peas to go into the freezer - we still have 4 of the veggie pies left that i just can not face:o

Love is the answer. At least for most of the questions in my heart,
Like why are we here? And where do we go?And how come it's so hard?

I often use mushy peas for pea and ham soup - even been known to use a tin of smart price.
