  • Just a thought, see the RSPCA has issued a summons in a case where the police proffered no help.

One ponders whether the same would happen here?

If the OP comes back and says JJB says XYZ...how do we know the OP is being truthful?

We dont, as with ALL the threads that get posted in any forum, we ASSUME they are being truthful in what they have to say, be that there is nothing for the OP to gain in making it up.

What a strange bit of pruning the Mods have done. Take away some but leave others. Up to MSE's normal moderating standards I see.

We dont but as stated earlier - The onus isnt really on JJB for this - they obviously thought they were doing right didnt they.

it is a police matter though.

In any thread, we can only comment on what the OP chooses to tell us - and we have no idea if all or some of what they say is made up or is in fact the whole truth.

I think it's down to each individual to make their own mind up about that and reply accordingly.

FWIW, I personally think the OP in this thread is telling the truth.
She has been clear that she wasn't in the shop when the incident occurred and so people should appreciate that what she has said happened is based on what her son has told her i.e. second-hand information.
I have no reason to think that the son is not telling the truth either.

As for JJB's involvement in this, I don't think they should recompense the OP's son for the lost-then-stolen ipod.
It was, unfortunately, her grandson's carelessness that resulted in this happening. Whether at his age he should even have had an ipod is irrelevant and nobody else's business but his parents.

However, I do think (as a company, not just this particular shop) JJB should review their lost/found property policy and tighten it up to ensure that the next opportunist thief doesn't walk away with somebody else's belongings.

I do think, given the circumstances, JJB should cooperate with the OP's son and the police (assuming THEY can be bothered to get involved) as far as they can without breaching the DPA or breaking the law themselves.

I actually feel sorry for the JJB employee who gave the ipod to this scumbag woman thief.
I know if was me, I'd feel bad about it.

The OP should write to the JJB Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee

....who ensure that its business is conducted in a socially responsible manner resulting in high standards of both social and environmental behaviour, and wishes to be recognised as a leading corporate citizen within all areas of its operation and is fully committed to ensuring its business is conducted in a socially responsible manner and has developed a set of broad corporate responsibility principles which will guide its future progress. These principles relate to community relations.

explaining that on this occasion :p the customer experience disappointingly fell short of the standard of previous interactions and is misaligned :p with the JJB Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee's aims and objectives, suggest that this customers feedback, as a welcome contribution :p , will provide a valued opportunity :p , on a going forward basis :p, to enable them to improve, meet and exceed the objectives on all fronts.

Whilst not wanting to argue with you Polly - From what i can gather from the OPs first post is that the woman saw the ipod being handed over then came back and described it and they handed it over - what if the OP went in and described it too if it was still there - are you saying they wouldn't have given it to her either?
