Couldn't agree more meepster. It's mad giving a kid like that an ipod worth £150...but that's the way of the world now, isn't it? Kids getting their bikes nicked when they leave them outside shops, or expensive mobile phones stolen from them. And that starts of a whole new issue - kids today get far too much, etc., and dont appreciate/look after things properly.

Trouble is, when all their mates have those things - or the latest trainers or whatever, my son, like most parents, has fallen into the trap of not wanting his kids to be left out, so he works all the hours God sends to provide all the material comforts he thinks are essential for his kids in order for them to be happy.

It is ridiculous. We lost sight of making do with what we had over 40 years ago, sadly.

Surely the same applies to adults ? I bet you have 'stuff' your parents never had

The police are not useless though are they? They have choosen to go after bad guys rather than dealing with lost property and a chancer.

But we could get them to revew the tape make enquires get statements, write the statements up etc etc which would cost the tax payer how much? Thousands maybe...... for an Ipod which cost £100.

Dont give kids Ipods and you don't get these silly problems

    Simples

Ha ! we had a lorry stolen out of our yard , the police said they would be round in the next 10 days to take a statement , and said more or less whats the problem you are insured .......

.Sadly these days it seems that its the fault of the person who has been robbed who is at fault .Its still stealing even if you dont physically take it from someone .The more peoples attitude is that its ''your fault'' the more the lines over what is right or wrong get blurred imoh

I see what you mean, in your case there was probably little more you could have done to prevent the theft of the lorry and I would have kicked up a fuss to make sure that the police were at least making some effort to catch those to blame.

But in the case of the Ipod it was totally avoidable, should the police waste valuable time and money chasing a petty chancer?

My parents didnt have a television, that they had not been invented in their childhood, the same applies to my childhood, I had a 1k zx81 (with a HUGE 16k ram pack), that was top of the range in my days. Its true to say, kids have pretty much anything from mp3 players to computer consoles, as well as this World Wide Web, kids have got pretty much everything nowadays. none of which I could ever dream of as a child.
