JJB gave grandsons ipod away.

I'm not sure I agree that JJB have no responsibility in this.
Once a member of staff picked it up I suspect they had a duty of care to take reasonable steps to keep it secure. I don't think it's reasonable to hand over an i-pod without asking a few questions when requested they return an I-phone- however the main issue is the disinterest of the police in refusing to accept and follow up a report of obtaining goods by deception.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Leave it zaksmum. No point in continuing 'discussing' this imo, you've offered a reason why things are as they are, don't defend yourself, there's no need. If you do, you'll only keep stoking the 'sarky comments' fire.Herman - MP for all!0

Thanks aliasojo, you are right of course. I'll pop back when there's an update. Thanks for your support, you've been very helpful.0

This is outrageous - can't believe JJB aren't compensating you the £150 as they were clearly negligent in handing over the ipod without verifiying the person was the genuine owner. And the police not acting is very poor too.
If nothing else works I would visit your local MP who will put pressure on the police to investigate. Another line of attack is to go to the small claims court and recover the £150 from JJB on account of their negligence.
I would also consider the local press as it would be of interest to them I think.
Don't give up it's well worth fighting for. Best of luck with it.0 -
I haven't read right the way through, as I should be doing something far more constructive, like housework, boo. So I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this.
I know that it's a much smaller scale but is a similar thing to the lottery ticket that someone else claimed after finding it in a shop. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1170467/Fraud-couple-30k-lottery-ticket-supermarket-floor-went-spending-spree.html
If that was a criminal offence, surely this is as well.0 -
Here is a possible scenario
Son ambles down to the cop shop, once he has recovered from his jet lag to, once again, report the incident.
After some discussion the police decide to get involved.
They contact JJB and ask to see (and hear) CCTV footage.
Oh no! - the footage has been wiped as JJB do not keep it for that long.(And have no legal requirement to keep it)
So now - no evidence.
OP comes back on asking what is the best way to proceed in pursuing compensation from JJB, both for loss of ipod and distress caused.
Just a thought.:cool:0 -

Except they have yet to go to the Cop Shop in the first place
But they have been in touch with the boys in blue already (allegedly)

From the opening gambit, sorry, post.0
