Yes, of course my grandson was negligent in the first place, but he's 11 years old and we all know what 11 year old boys are like when it comes to paying attention to what they are supposed to be doing:)!! His dad didn't even realise the kid had the ipod with him till he got home and the lad realised he'd left it in the store.

Well why give an 11 year old £150 worth of electrical equipment if he isn't mature enough to look after it??

This isn't JJB's fault in any way...
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

  • The Sun love stories like this. Worth a try!
  • Yes I agree that your Son should have been more careful.

I would have thought though JJB would have questioned the woman a bit further, like what colour it is, model etc. Or been suspicious that she said it was an Iphone to begin with.

I doubt you'd be saying the same thing if it was your ipod they gave away.

I wouldn't be stupid enough to leave my ipod unattended...

Ask for a copy of the cctv tape

    Write to Head Office

Ask for written details about their lost property policy

Go back to the Police, not all in the Police service actually know what they are talking about unfortunately. Also, some prefer to avoid paperwork wherever possible which can have an effect on how they deal with things.

Yes the lad was careless, but he is not alone in this. JJB have to shoulder some of the responsibility whilst the ipod was in their 'care'.

  • At the very least, when giving away lost property they should get the person to verify the identity of the object (e.g. colour, model) and then get the name, address and signature of the recipient.

I agree that JJB is in the wrong, i expect that the member of staff violated the policy because someone claimed it so quickly after it was handed in. You need to see that policy and get a copy of the tape

Couldn't agree more meepster. It's mad giving a kid like that an ipod worth £150...but that's the way of the world now, isn't it? Kids getting their bikes nicked when they leave them outside shops, or expensive mobile phones stolen from them. And that starts of a whole new issue - kids today get far too much, etc., and dont appreciate/look after things properly.

Trouble is, when all their mates have those things - or the latest trainers or whatever, my son, like most parents, has fallen into the trap of not wanting his kids to be left out, so he works all the hours God sends to provide all the material comforts he thinks are essential for his kids in order for them to be happy.

It is ridiculous. We lost sight of making do with what we had over 40 years ago, sadly.

No meepster, you're probably not. But you're not an 11 year old boy, are you?

Done all that aliasojo. JJB refused a copy of lost property policy - say the matter is closed as far as they are concerned.

    Head Office ditto.

Police say my son is wasting their time.

Hit a brick wall every time. Nobody is interested in helping.
