  • There are some nice villages around the Swaffham area (although Swaffham itself isn't as nice)
North of Thetford is also nice, the other side of the forest.

Wymondham is bootiful! ....... you guessed it I live there!

The only issue with people moving into the area is you need to have lived here for several generations before the locals will accept you! :)

Only really accepted after evolution has conspired to give you six digits on each hand and foot.

    High six.

It has been said that in Norfolk the only thing flatter than the landscape is the top of the inhabitants heads. :D

On a similar note, when I first arrived here from London in 1973 my then boss told me that the inhabitants were just like the scenery: dull, flat and uninteresting.

Experience has taught me that he was a little harsh on both counts. But only a little...:D

Anyone have any links to school league tables in Norfolk for 2010, (both primary and upper) can only seem to access 2009...
  • I must say, I am thoroughly enjoying reading everyone's posts! Thank you for your help in trying to make our eventual move down to Norfolk a tad easier....we must read and research everything possible beforehand to find out where is 'nice' and which areas to avoid. Since we live so far away from East Anglia, it's difficult and for now must depend upon the google maps to 'ride around' the various towns and villages. I adore those quintessential English thatched cottages and we don't want a new build. Any suggestions?

What we are looking for are nice villages (ones preferably with tearooms) and pretty little market towns or High Streets that don't have gambling shops or that sort of thing. My children are grown and they live in America so good schools are not a must for us. But we would like a little bit of countryside, yet not being a million miles away from lovely shops and places where we could show our visiting friends and family from the States. I so wish I could find out exactly where to live once our house sells because I am getting more and more confused by the minute and it is frustrating.

Thank you so much for all your help.
  • Like yourselves we are looking at re-locating to Norfolk (for different reasons - school no 1 etc) however I did put a thread up regarding Norfolk:

Don't know Thetford personally but a friend comes from there and she hated living there.
