PARLIAMENTARY MOTION SPECIFICALLY TO SUPPORT THIS SITE.
In February 2005, there was an early day motion in parliament to commend the work of this site.
Text of the Early Day Motion in full
564 MONEY SAVING ADVICE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC 20:1:05
Mr Gregory Campbell
Mr Nigel Dodds
Mr Jeffrey M. Donaldson
Bob Spink
Mr Mike Hancock
Mr Roy Beggs

That this House commends the activities of those persons and groups dedicated to assisting members of the public get value for money in purchases, insurance, overdrafts and mortgages; and recognises that money saving experts like Martin Lewis at http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/ provides, on a not-for-profit basis, an incentive for ordinary consumers to pressurise large providers and financial institutions to hold down prices to the general public.
Note The above is copied from the initial motion, quite a few more MPs added their names to it since.
See the motion itself (sometimes that doesn't work, if not go to this one and scroll down to number 564)
From Martin:
I knew nothing about it until someone e-mailed me to tell me. It was very surprising, so thanks to the MPs of all parties who supported it, it is appreciated. There was a slight technical glitch in that it said the site is 'not-for-profit', where as it does make money, albeit in a way we hope is still socially beneficial (see how this site is financed)
Since then the site has grown enormously, with millions now using it every month, and rather than little more than a one man band, there's a whole team behind it. Read about MoneySavingExpert's history
Since then there have been many accolades and awards for the site. Here are just a few...

- Help up as a model for 'the Power of information
In a report out in Summer 2007, the site has been held up as a model of how to reach people and allow interaction in the government’s review ‘The Power Of Information’. It goes without saying that I’m chuffed to bits that the site is included and held in such high regard.
Read a blog on it: First a call from no. 10
Read the full report: The Power Of Information - Radio 2 Most useful website of the year.
As well as being website of the day on Radio 2 many times, the site has also been picked as most useful website of the year. More info - Personal Finance Website of the Year.
The site won the B&B Personal Finance Awards New Media winner.
