Ah Cyclone you amuse me more each day... :rotfl:

(Although claiming to have blocked me but continuing to read and reply to my posts is a new low point even for you I must admit! Didn't have the heart to go through with it did you?)

Not that I didn't have the heart, just thought I stay in touch to "lissen" to your inacurate garbage, ie when is a 3/4 ton Corsa not a Corsa?, when it's a 1ton plus Clio.:D:D, Can't read, can't "lissen":rotfl:

What some of you guys haven't got from this post is that this wasn't some selfish idiot who deliberately took his life by jumping under a train. He did what you or me do everyday, he made a stupid mistake. In this case it cost him his life. Just remember there's 1 party at fault in almost every accident, of course it will never be some of you.:(
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

He made at least three stupid mistakes....

    1. Crossing the road in front of a bus.
    2. Crossing the road without looking.
    3. Texting while walking.

The Clio driver made one mistake... being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Anybody that thinks that this poor fellow wasn't responsible for his own removal from the gene pool is misguided.
  • He did what you or me do everyday:(

He didn't, you'll never catch me on a bus. He probably had rubbish parents or something.
Nothing to see here, move along.
  • Try riding a motorcycle alongside a line of stationary traffic - whether filtering or in a parallel lane. Pedestrians WILL walk out between the vehicles without looking.

The difference between a motorcycle and a car is that if I hit someone in those circumstances it's just as likely to kill or injure me as it is the pedestrian. That knowledge really sharpens your awareness.

It's all well and good to cite 'Darwinism' but someone daydreaming isn't exactly unusual. Knowing it's not your fault when they end up dead is no help when you're traumatised.

While I'd mostly blame the idiot who stepped out, I think the driver failed to obey the old rule of "always be able to stop in the distance you know to be clear". The edge of a bus is a pretty solid obstruction to visibility.

It does lead me to wonder, however, if the design of the bus stop may have had something to do with it. Over the years I've noticed a trend of filling in the old layby-style bus stops meaning that the road is ground to a halt whenever the bus stops, and later a trend to actually build out into the road just to maximise the congestion.

The best example I saw posted on another forum a few years back. The poster described it as an example of " a f**k you bus stop" and consisted of a road 2 cars wide, with a build-out, marked bus stop and then a traffic island opposite the build out just to ensure no overtaking. Predictable this was build under Ken Livingston's rule.

Things like this are surely going to add to driver impatience and encourage people to take more risks when an opportunity to overtake finally presents itself.

Add in an idiot stepping out without looking and *splat*
  • Clearly the lesson to take from this incident is never, ever, ever take the bus anywhere. Oh you're nice and safe with the crazy people whilst you're on there in your big safe tin box, ding the bell, dribble on the seats, fun fun fun! But what happens when you step off it eh? You're out into that big wide world where you actually have to use your eyes and a modicum of common sense to not wander into roads in front of speeding traffic.

You step out from behind a bus without looking, into traffic, then chances are you'll get clobbered. And he did. Sad, but thats life.

That can actually be rounded up to one mistake, ie not paying attention. Never done that?

Whilst you are on your high horse, can you please tell me if you think, or otherwise, that a car is not a killing machine?

Cars tend not to be advertised as killing machines, possibly because that is not their intended purpose.

The person who was not paying attention made some poor choices.

He chose to walk in front of the bus.
He chose to cross the road without looking.
    He chose to text.

He was paying attention, just not to the things that mattered.

It is very sad and it sounds like neither driver nor pedestrian were paying attention. The driver should have been aware that stopped bus=pedestrians and pedestrians=unpredictable and often a bit stupid, and the pedestrian should have been aware that stepping out into the road in front of a bus while texting isn't the most sensible thing to do.

I bet the text wasn't even that important - certainly not worth dying over :(

In my are they don't teach the highway code any more. Luckily, as a BSL, I do. so each year at least 16 6-8 year olds learn how cross the road safely.
