  • I suppose the point I'm trying to say is Hotpoint are now so crap you are more or less guaranteed to need to use their parts guarantee. Therefore you will end up paying Hotpoint the priviledge of making money by fixing your crappy Hotpoint appliance.

OK then...I look forward to seeing your posts about the "cons" of all the major car manufacturers etc who advertise 3, 7 year or even "lifetime" warranty on their cars, that's how business and things in general seem to work...or as Esther used to say ..."That's Life":rotfl:

Things work this way because people like you accept them.

Hotpoint offer a free 5 years parts guarantee but charge a standard parts and labour repair regardless if you have this guarantee or not.

Hotpoint also offers you a free 5 year parts guarantee. This additional guarantee is conditional on you registering your appliance with us and the parts being fitted by one of our authorised engineers. There will be a charge for our engineer’s time. To activate the extra parts warranty on your appliance, simply call our registration line on

This charge for the engineers time is £74.95, whether you have the parts guarantee or not. So this can only mean it's a CON........

why is it a con when they clearly state the T&Cs when you buy the product?

Why is everything a con nowadays?

Because it does not state in the T&C's that they charge £74.95 flat fee (which includes parts and labour) even if you have a 5 years parts guarantee.

So if you have a 2 year old machine and it needs a new pump the bill will be £74.95. If you have a 6 year old machine and it has the same fault it still costs £74.95.

    That makes it a CON

Didn't realise they charged a fixed fee repair, so yes it does indeed seem very unfair but it says FROM £74.95 and you have missed the * next to the price

    * Prices varies according to the age and type of appliance.

No it does not. You don't have to use the 5year warranty for parts if you don't want to, it is available to you on the condition that you pay the labour. If this is a con, it is because the buyer failed to enquire or understand what they were purchasing.

To be honest, you are likely to need to call out an engineer (and I use that term very loosely!!) within the first year, then just keep calling them out every 3 months (you will probably need to anyway!!) and then you get free repairs for life :) (wole machine is covered for 90 days after a repair visit).

Failing that, don't buy hotpoint/indesit, I won't ever again!!! just put in yet another service call for our 4th machine in 3 years, with the same fault!!!! (F13 error). And I know we will put in another call in a couple of weeks for the same fault, then there will be an argument, then they will replace the whole machine, well thats what has happened on the last 3 machines!!!

I have actually phoned them about this in the past, they may have a variation on some ages of machine but there's never a cheaper price allowance for having a new machine with a 5 years part guarantee.

They probably just read the sticker on the machine

can't see anything about the labour.

You can argue that it's obvious but you discount the fact that they charge the same whether you have the parts guarantee or not.

You are paying for the labour. The parts themselves are free.

Asking that the part is fitted by an approved engineer as part of a guarantee is nothing new. I can't imagine many firms would stand by a product after any Tom, !!!!!! or Harry had had a go at fixing it himself.

Hotpoint offer a free parts guarantee on the proviso that you use their engineer, whom you pay for his/her labour. This is all detailed within the contract that you agreed to. There is no con here.
