Hassling For Feedback

    If feedback was simply to give opinions, then I would agree with most comments. However ebay have made it an integral part of a seller's ability to sell. Paypal, ebay by another name, also do this. Not only does this make life difficult, but it makes ebay more expensive for the buyer.
    For all those who have watched a few episodes of Dragons Den and think they have it sussed, read on.
    Stock is bought, then sold at a profit. A small business start up would be asked to provide a business plan when seeking funds to do this. Two choices here - high turnover with low margin, low turnover high margin. In the retail sector, both scenarios are acceptable to a business bank.
    If there is any delay in obtaining cash from a sale, route two would be your only option.
    A bit simplistic, but the best I can do in a paragraph.
    It's irritating reading posts from people who think they know how a business should be run, and do so rather pompously despite admitting they don't do it themselves.
    As a former accountant, I have often been in the sad position of advising clients who thought they knew what they were doing, and then sank.
    Paypal are behaving in a way a bank would not be allowed to do. Just because it's their rules does not make it right.

    Actually feedback can count against a seller for ebay purposes (paypal don't give a fig about feedback unless connected with the 21 day hold).

    A seller can easily survive with very little actual feedback, a few percent from buyers at most, however the dangerous bit is if they start getting lots of feedback but with the stars being knocked down, even a 4* if given by more than around 50% of buyers can badly affect their selling ability.

    The only real thing that matters on ebay is UK turnover, achieve certain amounts of that and a certain amount of sales and you get power seller status. The only feedback requirement to feature in the pS programme is the requirement to stay above 4.6 and to stay below a certain number of low stars.

    I would rather get no feedback at all than get someone leave me a positive but with 4* across the board.

    Anybody would. Power seller status on it's own is useless. Discounts are based on DSR, so if you got no feedback at all it would cost you more.
    The 21 day paypal witholding is outrageous.
  • I use feedback all the time on ebay when making purchase decisions. Not just for whether the seller dispatched on time etc but to check on the quality of product being sold etc

    For example - I bought my wedding dress from a chinese seller (Please don't get into the whole copyright discussion here - it's not the point of this thread) and I read every bit of feedback regarding other people's experiences - which I then used to privately contact a few previous buyers for more info.

    I appreciate that for big sellers, DSRs etc are more important than feedback but for buyers they are often equally important. If a seller has low DSRs, reading the feedback often explains WHY the stars are low. I've bought from sellers with low DSRs because I felt that the things other people were complaining about in negative feedback wouldn't really bother me.

    No one is saying otherwise but to suggest this is a new rule (not you yourself) is plain wrong.

    OP has, post 51.
    If you read the four page thread you will see that it's not all about the original post, rather it evolved into a discussion about feedback, Paypal's holding rule, etc. The whole idea of a forum.
    You don't have to comment if it offends you.
  • I agree that buyers shouldn't be hassled for feedback but for all the people who have said it's about money rather than feedback, surely reputation is important and the only way for an ebayer to get increased business is through positive feedback and then potentially higher revenues.

    I understand the argument that I wouldn't personally go in to a shop and give them positive feedback after the transaction was completed but you will find many reviews on businesses and items which help future buyers decide. I know I find it very useful! don't you? :)
