Still no feedback but plenty of posts on MSE - The ebayer from hell :D

Do you really consider buyers who don't leave feedback as poor buyers, goodness, I obviously don't worry enough then as I have well over 30 outstanding feedback on my main selling account alone and i really don't lose any sleep about it at all. I only worry if they don't pay as I thought that was the point of my selling things.

I obviously haven't got the hang of ebay then if I haven't understood that feedback has somehow become so necessary.

Thank heavens for Amazon where you hardly get any feedback at all.

You shouldn't throw your proof of postage away when the item has been delivered. If you get a charge back against you and no proof of postage you will lose.

Oh I didn't know that! Many thanks for your advice.
  • Haven't the rules changed now? I got an email on Friday from Paypal saying that any payments I receive from now on will not be released for 21 days unless I get positive feedback from the buyer (I have 100% FB score BTW but only about 2 out of 3 buyers bother to leave any).

Surely that makes feedback even more important than ever for private or small-time sellers, for cash flow if nothing else?

So here's the dilemma - chase (politely) for feedback so that I get my hard-earned funds released ASAP, or risk being shunned altogether by the buyer for "hassling" them and being forced to wait 3 weeks for my money.

All you buyers out there who can't be arsed to leave feedback, there are sellers waiting to put food on the table.

A buyer buys an item, not the right to leave feedback.

If you are running a business or trying to earn a living, you should have reserves available for the event in which a buyer does not leave feedback, rather than trying to shame people into leaving it.

In any event, money in a Paypal account takes a while to transfer to a bank account to be usable for offline purchases, so if you are in the position where you can't "put food on the table" because someone hasn't left you feedback, you are mismanaging your funds and should re-arrange your priorities.

A buyer has no obligation to leave any feedback at all. I agree, OP could just go and leave it now, it takes a very short period of time to cut and paste a standard phrase into fifteen text blocks, but sellers should be careful not to antagonise the people who hold their accounts in their hands.

That's a rather personal attack and I take exception to it. I am not in that position myself but I know of plently of people who are out of work or on short-time working etc and use Ebay selling as a means to make ends meet. All of those people are now having to wait up to 21 days to get the cash they are earning from that activity because buyers are not leaving feedback in a timely manner.

I believe - and this is only my humble opinion and I'm obviously not speaking from such an exalted viewpoint as yours - that it is only polite to leave feedback as soon as I am happy with an item I have purchased, although I am fully aware that plenty of people on this board do not agree.

Would you consider yourself a polite person?

When was the last time you walked back to a shop and told the store manager you were happy with the service? What percentage of your offline purchases follow this pattern?

Manners have nothing to do with the feedback system on Ebay.

I've bought and sold on ebay since it became available in the UK. Yes I see the benefit of feedback to regular buyers so they can gauge a seller's reliability, but I also understand that it is, and always has been, a buyers prerogative as to whether they choose to leave feedback or not. As I've said, I don't believe "politeness" comes into it.

I only sell about two or three times a year, on free listing days, and I sell about 40 items each time.

I recently sold 30 bits and bobs and had no bother with Paypal releasing funds etc - BUT I had no idea that this was a new policy of theirs! Are they just randomly selecting sellers to target or is this new policy being rolled out across the whole Ebay community?

I've got 100% feeback and all 5 star DSRs but I have had to wait two weeks or so for some of the feedback and some still hasn't been received. If I'd been forced to wait for feedback before my funds were released I'd have been prety stuck to be honest as quite a few items were high value, international sales that cost £16 in postage each.

Back to the OP's original point - as a buyer I leave feedback asap because I think it's only fair to praise the seller if they've been great and also to warn other buyers if they haven't!

As a seller I now don't leave feedback until I have received it because in the past I've had negs stating things like "item creased in post" or "item as described but not very nice"

Yes I would consider myself to be a polite person, I treat others as I expect to be treated myself. If I get good service in a shop I say Thank You, which Ebay feedback should be used for. I dont just walk away from someone who has served me without saying anything. I agree it's the buyers prerogative to use FB or not but if Paypal are imposing these new rules across the board then it will cause some people problems (see purplebutterfly's post)

I have no idea - I got the email on Friday and it was implemented straight away on my next sale. I have 100% FB and 5-star DSR's so I have no idea why I have been targeted.
