Just a quickie in case anyone's about...

I've got some diced beef that I thought I'd curry and to save hassle later, would it be too late to put it in the slow cooker now?

It's nearly half three so s'pose it'd be cooking for 4 hours, is that long enough on high?

    Thanks :)

I would say nothing can be cooked in a slow cooker for 4 hours especially meat but if you have a pressure cooker that would work

    Hello :)
TWO quick questions for the quick questions thread...

    1. If you put the meat in without browning does it still come out ok?

    2. If I was to brown off the meat the night before, then keep in the fridge ready to set off the slow cooker in the morning, would it work or would the meat come out manky?

    Thanks,

    S

    Silaqui -

    1. Yes fine (though sausages can look a little anaemic!) I never brown meat.

    2. I think it might go tough.

Thanks Skint_Catt, I thought that about 2., but if it comes out ok without bothering to brown stuff off than I guess it doesn't matter anyway!

I bought Tesco's own, 3.3 litre, Slow Cooker this morning (bargain I think, £9.97). There wasn't really many instructions with it. It has 4 settings, off, high, low and warm. I have two pork loins in there with a bottle of Newmans Own Sticky BBQ Marinade. I am reading conflicting things here as to what setting it should be on. I put it in at 11.30am and want it for round about 6ish. Its been on high so far, should it continue to be on high until 6 or should I put it on to low at some point?
    TIA

Ok i need help! i just browned of some mince, onions mushrooms with oxo cube, tom sauce and worchester sauce.

I put these in my SC with boiling water (think i put too much in because its quite watery and ive read on here SC dont allow water to evapourate, but il get rid of that near the end)

My question is- after a few hours could i top the mince etc with sliced potatoes an hour before it to be serverd or would i be better to take the mince out an hr before top with pots and put in the oven?

Please can someone help- ive searched through a few threads on the SC and i cant find any info?

Hmmmm. I wouldn't be 100% sure the potatoes would cook in an hour as they do take longer in SC so might be better to pop in the oven so you know they will definitely be cooked.

Scoop off your extra liquid and keep as stock for the next one. let us know how you get on.

Thanks, ok il sc the mince etc for the next few hours... i only have a roasting tin (only moved in to house and havent got all my dishes)

Should i put the mince in the tray and top with uncooked potatoes? or boil them/mash with milk and put them on top like a shepherds pie?

Sorry for all the questions- I'm trying to surprise the OH with a nice meal!
