Hi all
Bennn usuing my slow coker for a few months now, loving it. But was wondering if I could use it to keep rice hot for a party?
I'm thinking of doing a big pot of chilli and a big pot of rice. Will I be Ok to keep the rice warm in the slow cooker? I know rice can be a bit funny about keeping warm....any tips?
Cheers0 -
Hi avstar,
Rice contains a a nasty bacteria (bacillus cerius) that can cause problems if it's kept warm for any length of time so it's probably not wise to keep it warm for long periods, besides it would probably become over-cooked and stodgy.
What I normally do is cook the rice beforehand and chill it as quickly as possible (under a cold running tap) then reheat it, covered, in a microwave just before serving.
There's an earlier thread with more advice:

I did pork by cooking in a small amount (~1cm) of apple juice and putting sliced apples on top. You might wanna brown it in a frying pan first. Also, allegedly pork can contain some kind of nasty parasite so you should whack it up to high for the last hour.#145 Save £12k in 2016 Challenge: £12,062.62/£12,000.00 Beginning Balance: £5,027.78 CHALLENGE MET

Hello there,
I've just used my slow cooker for the first time today :j
I really want to try a risotto in my slow cooker tomorrow but I'm struggling to find a recipe, they all seem to be American and I don't know how to measure in cups!
Can anyone help me out?
Thanks

Morning all,
This is just a quicky cos I'm off out shopping in a minute and don't have time to scroll through all the SC threads for an answer to my question!
I've got a half lamb leg for dinner and wanted to SC it, I've never cooked a meat joint in my SC cooker before and need to know what to put in with it. Do I layer some veg on the bottom with stock or water or something, or does it go in as it is?
