I tend to use upto a couple of pints of stock with things like this because I love lots of gravy. I add chopped carrot, onion and bayleaf. Blitz all the veg together with the juices at the end to make my gravy adding extra's like worc sauce, mustard etc and more stock cube if necessary.
First meal from ours we tend to have chunks of meat and Naan bread, just dip the bread in the gravy and enjoy:D The following day we would probably have it with lovely creamy mash and veg.

I've been looking for "bain-marie" or double cooking in my slow cooker. I'm sure I've read before but can't find.
CAn anyone help? Thinking of doing a chilli/spag bol but then putting some apples in a covered pyrex dish to stew in the middle of all this with the chilli/spag doing what water would do in a bain marie. It it works the list is endless to what I can do and I'm glowing at how thrifty I'd feel - not usually my forte!! Thank you0 -
just stand a heatproof cup in the middle and place your pyrex dish on top.
To the earlier post re.risotto just don't do it in the SC. Proper risotto deserves to be cooked properly, and there are plenty of other things you can do in a sc. Thats just my experience;)Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

I want to buy a slow cooker. I live alone and will be making meals for one. I won't be cooking whole chickens or large joints of meat. I've seen the cookers in Argos. Should I buy a round or an oval cooker? which is better?0

I think it is down to personal preference. I bought a large oval so I could cook whole chickens in mine. Either one will be fine another thing to consider would be how much storage space you have in you cupboards or on your units.0

hi
how long will it take to cook 1.5kg of spare rilbs in slow cooker ?
I have the used HFW's recipie for chinese spare ribs / pigs trotters but i have put in slow cooker rather than oven.
i have looked up spare ribs in slow cooker and some people cook on low for 7 - 10 hours which i am sure is great BUT i only put them in the slow cooker at 11am and the kids will want tea when they get in from school:rolleyes:
so either i need to plan a different tea for today and have the ribs tomorrow in which case i will keep the slow cooker on low until late evening....
or i need to turn the slow cooker up onto high and cook for less time.....
will this work? how long on a higher setting? i have only ever used the slow cooker on low .....so don't know by how much the medium or higher setting decreases cooking time....
help:rolleyes:

All slow cookers are different so the difference between the temperatures will depend on your model . If you turn the heat up it will cook quicker. If you put them in now and cook on high the ribs will definitely be ready for the children coming in from school. If they cook faster than you expect you can always turn the heat down again.Life is too short to waste a minute of it complaining about bad luck. Find joy in the simple things, show your love for those around you and be grateful for all that you have.0

I've had a look through all the papers and leaflets my recipe book shelf and found my instruction booklet for my slow cooker.
I bought it in 1993. And its still going strong.
Its only 2.5 litres but that suitable for me.:) Say
It has recipes some are very interesting and maybe I'll try a few.
It gives you the power watt of each setting. Not sure if that's any help to me or not.
Hints for best results and care of the slow cooker
