I've seen a cople of posts on here about the slow cooker - I had mine brought for me as a "moving in present" when I brought my flat 5 years ago - I've only used it a couple of times as I only know how to make a stew in it?! so I have a couple of questions....

1 - is it expensive to keep it on all day? I am on economy 7 electric so my electric costs loads more during the day.

2- where do you get your idea's/recipe's from?? I'd love to use it more as it saves me cooking after a hard day at work!!!

    Thanks in advance

Hi I have dusted off my SC and am hoping to do Gammon in it tomorrow.

Thinking of trying the coke idea...do I completely cover joint? Will diet coke b e ok. Was thinking of making homemade chips...anyone know how I can do this with just an oven and a tray as no deep fat fryer.

Trying to use just ingredients I have but if anyone has other suggestions to what I can serve with it then i would be very grateful!

Once you have cut up your chips or potato wedges, put in a bowl and add a little olive or other oil of your choice and mix throughly so that all the potatoes have oil on them...
Then put on your tray, and bake in a hot oven :D
  • Can't help with the coke bit but for my 'chips' I cut into chunky wedges, put in pan with cold salted water, bring to boil then simmer 4 mins. Drain and toss in oil. Then sprinkle with sea salt and fresh pepper and either roast in oven or, what I do, in a griddle pan on top of the stove.

thanks guys....I normally end up with half cooked chips...will par boil them first and then do the oven.

Anyone got any idea on the coke? If not think I will just use water and some onion.

    Hi :D

How close to the top can I fill my SC? I have a 3.5l Morphy Richards and like to freeze as much as possible. If I make chili with 500g (ish) mince and the rest of the ingredients it just about fills half of the slow cooker. Could I add more... maybe another 250g mince?

    Thanks.

I've got same model! Made soup up to about 1- 1 1/2 cm from top of pot-was fine! I do the same-double it up & freeze it!

I've just bought a reduced duck crown thing in Tesco, what would this come out like in the slow cooker? I know from cooking chicken in the SC, the meat seems to go further so was hoping this would be the case with duck.

Also, any ideas on what to put in with it?

I've filled mine to the top with no problems. Just make sure you leave enough room to be able to stir it without it sploshing over the sides!
