Preparing for winter II

Just as I was congratulating myself on being organised and ahead on bills etc, a new bill arrived for my block of flats - £250 each
It could have been worse, I suppose, and at least it is shared.
It has been nice to be able to skive from the mountain of work I've had to bring home and catch up with the thread over tea.
My snow shovel etc is on order. Thanks for the reminder. I'm the youngest person (by several decades) who lives permanently in the building and if possible, it'd be nice to be able to clear a path so that people can at least get in to their cars/waiting taxi.0 -
I wonder who was the first person to look at a snail slithering along leaving a slimy trail and think to themselves "yummy"? :rotfl:
I nearly choked on my soup when i read this!* So true! I am terrified of them. Spiders I can deal with but the slimey beasties fill me terror to the point where I almost throw up.
*Note to self: don't combine eating and reading Justamum's posts!
Edit: Singlestep - it's lovely to hear of people like you who want to help your older neighbours. It inspires me to do the same. Last winter all mine seemed fine - most are fit and independent. But I did offer my errand-running services where I thought I could be useful.Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

Wish they'd so something for the "slimy shelled" ones outside tho':(
We must be related
No winter prep done here today - too hot to do any physical work in the garden, anything that needed a wash already done and dried earlier in the week, can't go out because of pup so no more stockpiling (not that I need to LOL). Ooh actually, I did a search for good value/performing solar outside lights so there's a bit of light in the garden when I take pup out late - will be useful when clocks go back. Anyone know of a good value/good performance solar garden light? Otherwise it's the stepladder and try to fix the outside light that hasn't worked for 15+ years "Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0 -

Sorry about the bill, but just wanted to say what a lovely thought re the path clearing for the older residents - well done you :T"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0 -
Getting there in face mainly there as much as possile, execpt I keep eating the frozen bread that is supposed to be stockpiled.
We had have a cat that eats slugs, and use Advocate, as it's the only one that seems to also work against Lungworm, if that helps at all.0 -

Well I felt terribly guilty today. I had marked down on my winter prep list for DH to re-silicone the shower. The problem was not the outside silicone but the stuff inside which had gone black and mildewy. Despite my best efforts with Dettol mould and mildew spray nothing worked. So I thought simple, take the old stuff out, clean it then put new down. Five hours later and he was putting back into place the shower screens and screws and then putting down new silicone. The whole lot had to come out, don't get me wrong it is REALLY clean now, but had I known what a job it would be I wouldn't have suggested it!
The carpets have dried beautifully over night and I did our bedroom carpet this morning which is pretty much about dry. The dogs towels and their bedding have all been washed and super quick dried in this weather.
Left to do
Clean & Polish the cars
Put in screenwash for the cars and check fluid levels
Drain outside tap and cover over
Clean windows
Oil gates and locks
Quick tidy up in garage
trim back in the garden
Deep clean inside the house next week
Sewing
Butchers stock up (still running freezer down)
and that is it! :jCat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

I've started on my loo roll stash. Last month when Lidl had the Cushelle on offer, I got two packs. We usually get through one 24 pack a month and today, the last roll from one pack was running low, so I was very pleased to see it back on offer. Picked up another two this evening. That means I've now got 2 spare packs. One will go in the shed for winter emergency and I won't have to buy anymore for normal use for a couple of months.
Got gloves and hats washed and I think I'll wash the sofa covers tomorrow to make the most of this warm weather.
Got a trip to Ikea planned to pick up some of the cheapish throws for the living room windows. (Not the really cheap blue ones, but the £2 something ones because I want a different colour!) Our living room windows have a deep recess due to the thick stone walls, but the curtains hang outside of the recess, so I've put up a tension rod in the recess for the throws.
The seals or the edges of the frames on the living room windows seem to have gone/come away and it sounds like we've got the window open. I would get hubby to go around the edges with sealant, but after seeing his efforts with sealing the bath, I think getting some throws is the better option! :rotfl:0 -

Thanks, NualaBuala and lizzyb1812. It's really not a lot, considering. I have lovely quiet neighbours, and there's always somebody at home - constant (unofficial) Neighbourhood Watch!0
