thanks for the advice tugrin , i hadnt concidered wearing gloves etc but shall heed your warning ,
me and OH split last year have been in this house 11 years and had waited for him to put in insulation since moved here .... so now I'm down to single wage I have to watch my outgoings so i thought insulation would be a wise investment and a d.i y job i could tackle ( well i get DS to hold the ladder ):D
thanks again0 -
Go Jammy!! I waited what seemed a lifetime for my ex to do anything too. Being on your own is both easier and more difficult (sonds paradoxical I know) but if its any help at all I know Im a better person since being a singleton AND I hav learned so much - its very liberating. I use to be a real leech I think as a partner so its a blessing for the opposite sex that Im a 'learned single ' now too! (Thats a joke) I loved this quote I heard not long after I split from ex
"Sometimes, nothing is better than just anything at all..." with regards to having a partner - you have to think about it a bit, but it made me realise that I had to be resilient and not just scrabble about for a man....any man to put my shelves up!!!!
Let us know how you get on - wear long sleeves too and make sure your scissors are sharp.debt free 2021 at current DMP rate[/COLOR] (probably be in an old peoples home by then)0 -

With regard to the loft insulation, please also wear a mask - especially if it's fibre glass which it sounds like it might be. That stuff can be very dangerous if inhaled.0 -
I'm a mid winter baby and I hate it! SO i'm not sure the theory holds true. It isn't just the cold, I hate the dark nights too. I can usually cope in the run up to christmas but January and February are miserable for me. Once the kids have left and i don't have to work then i'm off to spain for 8 weeks every year in the caravan.
And I was born in the boiling summer of '76 and hate the heat! Give me winter anyday0 -
Putting an old odd sock over the bottom of your can of deicer stops your hands from getting freezing cold when you're scraping the car
This tip was originally posted by ikklegibbon on the quick tips board on 29th January 2011.
I'm def gonna use this idea. Although it seems strange thinking about de-icer on one of the hottest days of the year.:rotfl:

Oh just found another tip, but I cant remember who originally posted it, sorry.
Keep empty toilet roll cardboard thingy's and fold them tightly inside each other to make free firelighters.
And I'd been throwing them all away:eek:0 -
Got a great deal on some Pillsbury cake and brownie mixes today-- about 65p each. Its easier to get cake mixes at this price, but brownie mix has gotten more expensive. I added 3 cakes and 7 brownies to the pantry. That's probably a years worth for DH and I-- but they are dated into 2013, so they'll last. Must have a little chocolate set aside in lean times:D0

Jammy we are loft insulating this weekend too! That will be fun as the outside temp is predicted to be 26 degrees - will do it in the early part of the day. We have gone for the silver 19 layer foil which you staple to the inside of the roof to make a silver tent within your loft. It is expensive but will solve the problems of dirt in the loft, not having to lift all the border on the floor and rejoisting. Also we store a lot of stuff up there and the thought of keeping it all in very low temperatures was not appealing. I don't know if we will ever save enough on the gas to pay for it but it should last for our lifetime here and to stop the dirt will be good.
Intend to enjoy the summer that we have been blessed with here today with some more gardening jobs. It is odd collecting up the autumn leaves in such heat. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
Another thought on loft insulation Jammy is not to do what we did and make sure you dont cover the loft vents, house was warm as toast but I ended up with a lot of soggy loft due to condensation.0

Shaping up to be another beautiful day here - hope it's the same wherever you are!:D
Very strange to think we could have snow in a month or so:eek:
Taking full advantage - 1st lot of washing in, another ready to go and then the pets stuff!
Have chucked the dog into the garden with a bone I found lurking in the freezer and took out to defrost last night. He's doing more whining at it that anything else at the moment which is really funny - don't think he can believe it! (It's huge):D Will have to spread it out over the day in sessions so he doesn't eat too much of it;)Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
2016 Sell: £125/£250
£1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000
