Just been reading through an old thread and came accross this tip;
In the winter you can stop your car door lock freezing by putting a fridge magnet over it, especially if you do it in the early evening
Thanks to apprentice tycoon who posted this back on 26th May 2005. I never would have thought of that!0 -
Can anybody tell me how Costco Shearling boots are in the wet? Are they waterproof ? How do you clean them? Edinburgh had them yesterday but they all seem to be size 3 and 4.0

Morning everyone - well the sun seems to have finally arrived!:j
I think it was reasonably warm yesterday but there was a really cold wind so it certainly didn't feel it....
Taking advantage - throw from the sofa already out soaking up the rays, winter pj's currently in the machine (not dirty but have been lying in a drawer for about 6 months so a good chance to freshen them up:)) and then when I'm finished, the pets stuff will go in.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
2016 Sell: £125/£250
£1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000
Debt free & determined to stay that way!0 -
I know it's great isn't it Rising :j
I have just finished washing the sitting room carpet. Windows are open in there now to dry it, but the sun will move round there by about 1pimish and it will then get the full sun, so it will dry and treat and with the windows open it will allow the moisture out. Bought the 1001 solution from £1land a while back (well bought six of them actually) and they do a really good job in the Vax machine! I just can never believe how much dirt comes out the carpet. I vacuum everyday and yet there is always a grey tint to the water when I tip it.
I am going to get the hallway and the kitchen rug done before we go to bed tonight. The windows in the house will stay open, but it's a high traffic area and it can be drying right back while we sleep :TCat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

Sun shining here too and its lovely and warm! Loads of piles of washing to get thru - 2 lots already on the line - going to open all the windows and give the house a good blow through whilst we still can!
Wish I had a carpet cleaner - now that my house is in good order... finally! Its taken a while to get it straight but it looks lovely now... It would be nice to do the carpets on a day like today but a friends bf is going to come and do them for me when he gets a momentWhy oh why did I choose cream carpets... idiot!

I'm another winter baby and I love winter too ! but i still like hot food and a warm house ! so i'm still getting prepped so i can enjoy it all :j:T
same here winter baby that loves winter prep then enjoying the snow and the snowed in feeling (as long as it doesn't last too long!)
as for the indian summer, being from the midwest i can tell you that a indian summer was very normal for me every sept or oct and we'd still go on to have harsh winters, even harsher than those had here in the last few years so i hate to burst anyones bubbles but just cuz it's warm now please don't fool yourself into believing it's a sign it won't be a hard winter...
all we can say for now is, it's warm now, go enjoy it whilst you can!0 -
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I keep meaning to mention this on our thread....
The obsession with hoarding toilet rolls!!!
Correct me if I am wrong... But didn't that start with the rise in VAT? Because loo roll is VATable, we all got loads before the VAT rise came about... But it seems to have snowballed and become a commen topic on this thread!!!
well that's why i sorta why i started really stocking up, i guess more due to the ridiculous price rises in common basic items, but with my bad knees and back that siezes up in the cold there is no way i want to risk running out either :rotfl:0 -

aww bless, it's been gorgeous the last few days on the east coast. i was in edinburgh sun-tue and was so glad i decided to take a tshirt with me, i only wore my jumpers in the evening
it's fairly warm here today in fife too and the sunshine has been glorious... i'll try and send some of my heat your way, i want the grass to stop growing so i don't have to mow it again this year :rotfl:0 -
If anyone fancies a carpet cleaner, take a look at the Bissell site. I bought a small reconditioned one from there four years ago and it's still going strong and will do for some time yet I think - and I have neutral coloured carpets all round the house (fool!!!!)Normal people worry me.0
