Please can anyone give advice or recommend where I could look to get ideas on what to do to winterise my bathroom windows? Right now they are just 'bare' (no blinds or curtains), though they are double glazed. I'd like something more than just bubblewrap (still trying to convince DH on that one). I don't think heavy/lined curtains would be good in a bathroom, so I was thinking venetian or roman blinds - does this sound like it might work? I'm conscious of the effects of the steam that gets created in there.
There are 2 windows, internal dimensions of both are 31"w x 31"h. My bathroom has 2 outside walls, and it got really cold last winter, so I'm hoping that putting something on the windows will help a bit.
    Thanks

our bathroom is really cold too i am using a shower curtain up at our window will either add fleece behind it again like last year or use a thicker shower curtain i have one that looks a bit like bubble wrap and is thicker than the basic shower curtains i am also considering using the self sticking hook and loop stuff and putting the thicker one on the window frame we are not allowed to put holes in the new double gazing frames ,the window is already getting condensation on it in the mornings if this works i will try and get another one to do the kitchen window and glass on front and back doors the bulk of the one i have now is going to be hung up at the doors to kitchen and hall so the lr stays warm i don't like the doors closed i don't like being shut in hope this helps oh and i only used 2 big hooks and an old broom handle to hang mine up at the doors also handy too get washing dry in winter

RED DOE hope you have soom good news soon

MENNIE i too found your list helpful just because we all did our own list last year doesn't mean some one elses won't be helpful we all live in different places so the amount of prep we need to do will vary but if we all share our ideas they will help and what we didn't manage to do last year we can try to do this year i read everyones list and take ideas to fit around what i need to do and my memory is not the best so your list helps a lot please stay just don't let one person stop you from making your winter warmer and safer

To save you from searching the thread for how to use it you just wrap it several times round your face and secure with parcel tape x

I know you're not supposed to feed a troll but I like the idea of poking them with sharp sticks!!
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Mennie, listen to Aunty Rainy - a troll is there to incite trouble and when they see that you bite they ramp up their actions ever further still. They are by nature, sick unstable people, and I say that as a Criminal Psychologist. In life they go around causing trouble stirring up an argument and then walking away from it and leaving everyone else to fight it out, while they snigger to themselves from the sidelines. In the work place they are hell, because they are a classic narcissistic, who bully people and enjoy seeing them suffer. That is exactly where they get their kicks.

I come across them allot in my job, in fact I come across the general loons of society who thankfully are locked up, but some who are clearly not and are left to roam the streets under the guise of 'Care In The Community'.

Do not let anybody drag you down. You know what you are doing is right, that ultimately you have the very best of intentions at heart, that you are a thoroughly decent person. Never forget that your own conscience is the very barometer that tells you from right or wrong. When you put your head down on the pillow at night you can sleep well knowing that you have gone about your business in a decent way. If you need to duck out for a while, thats fine, but don't walk away from someone whose sole and total mission is spiteful hatred of anothers actions. Turn the situation on it's head and carry as as before in confidence and knowing that despite this one very sick individual, you have the support of all of us here. That very fact alone should not only sustain you, but carry you onwards.

ziggy re rhubarb, it should not really be eaten (unless bought as younger sticks) as the stuff in our gardens concentrates the acids and it isn`t good for you after july. I have loads of sticks on the allotment but I have had to ignore it

I cannot remember if I said but oct weather is not bringing us snow but will bring 4 storms in 6 weeks. Far south will be fine and hot at times. 16-20 almost everyone can get deckchairs out. Not a bad month, except for the storms and the scary one is sometime around 21-23 with events starting to happen from 11th. Please don`t pm to ask more details as it is all from a paid weather sub and is copyright so I can`t say any more, except I will give a hint when something changes or is about to happen

Buy a wrap sling to tie my toddler to my back if we really need to go out on foot - cant use the front carry ones i have anymore, too heavy!

I am a great fan of carrying toddlers on the back - I carried all of mine instead of using a push-chair, and it is probably worth investing in a ruck-sac style one (more protection if you do fall over & wonderfully sociable for the toddler)
If that's not possible, you might like this site which has great links for home-made carriers:

Thanks Purple Kitten - What kind of blind is that? Do you feel it helos, and does it suffer from the effects of steam?
Sadly, since I moved last year my nearest Ikea is about 2.5hours' drive away, so I'm not very familiar with the types or styles they have available.

Gigervamp - thanks too. I'll have a think about your suggestion. I've never seen curtan clips like that, but I'll have a browse around & see what's out there.

you can get the rings with the little clips on from bnm 99p for 10 hth

It's just an aluminium one, it's been up for about 4 years now, and no problems, it is a tiny bathroom.

It makes a difference during the very cold winter, but we have such a small bathroom it's fairly ok anyway.

right ladies and gents. I am fed up of this and think i am going to leave this forum for a while.↲I am sick of getting shot down in flames by trolls.↲The last time i started a thread on the old style board about adopting a child on a budget i was criticised for considering bringing a child up in poverty and now being ridiculed for being prepared. ↲Good luck all and helenium i hope you find your manners.

Mennie: don't let the troll get you (but if it helps to wander off for awhile, please wander back!). I am deeply impressed by all the good people here who help & support others; no wonder a nasty troll wants to upset them.
I didn't see your other thread, and no-one wants a child to be in need; but bringing them up on a budget is a useful life lesson in so many ways.
