Frugal and Rainydays hi,
My DDL3 is German and both her and her mum were horrified [truly!] that i didnt have a fur! Ddl has 6 and her mum has a wardrobe full!!
Anyway, that visit to germany i was given 2 furs, one a jacket and the other a mink gilet from her mum, with instructions to wear the gilet over my coat.Only had 1 comment in 4 years and that was last winter when i was asked where i got it from, told them it was a present , they said it looked lovely 'and almost real'
They are both more than 30 yrs old and very warm.Fur is commonly worn in the colder european countries as its insulating properties are so high.
Sorry if this offends anyone, but better to use than landfill.

I have two coats, both of which are slightly too small at present. I think that if some poor animals have died to create them it is sad, but even sadder not to use them. It's like throwing away steak. If I could legislate from hereon in I think I would ban it.Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

The only thing that gets to me is the isolation when the snow arrives and it was bad here last year,my neighbours are all young people following their own interests,I quite understand this of course but all I am saying is don't forget the oldies or disabled when the weather gets bad and they can't get out to get anything.
Ditto this, we have a neighbour a few doors down who is older and suffers with heart problems, when we saw no footprints in the snow we went round to check and get him some shopping in.
He was chuffed, and he now gives us a bell if he has any problems.
Shirley, Scotland is somewhere we would love to end up in the future, as Canada might not accept us with their immigration rules.0 -
I spent the best part of the morning cleaning out the ventilation thingy that sit above my window. I have no idea how you call it.. lol! sorry.
It's like a mesh screen along the top of the window that you can open or close.
It occured to me that with the wood burner on, we need to keep an eye on good ventilation. There's one thing in excluding cold and drafts, but it's another thing to completely suffucate my family! ;-)
My husband actually managed to take it down and I cleaned the whole thing out. It was YUCK! 10 years of dust and sand at least! You can't get fresh air in through mucky vents can you?
So, I'm just saying, make sure that in your efforts to exclude drafts, you don't suffocate yourself.0 -
Just for info (incase no one has listed this) but Matalan are selling super warm socks with a tog rating of 2.3!!!!! They are devine! £5.00 - £6.00 depending on the size you require!0

A carbon monoxide sensor should be in every home especially those with wood or coal burners or gas fires or central heating. If you dont
have one please add it to your shopping list. It could save your life.0 -

I agree - a bit pricey but essential. I have two. One in the living room where the old gas fire was and one upstairs near the boiler.0 -
Another few things scored off the list today - I have ordered car shovels (they fold in half) and also a large snow pusher thing, along with a sack of salt. When at Tesco got another £2 of savings stamps for my savings card, which will be used to buy groceries at the end of October - slow but sure!Every days a School day!0
