I also saw they had their own version of those blankets with arms too in case anyone is interested - I never fancied them, would probably trip and thought I would have a cold back!

Do they call those 'slanketts' or something like that?
Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money :D
• Thanks Nuala, that sounds perfect, only we don't have a Primark around here. Might ask my mum to keep an eye open in her local Primark for me. Sainsburys look like they do something similar but it's out of stock at the moment. There's also a lovely furry one on Amazon, but it's £15 (inc postage). Am I way out with the prices or if that the sort price they are?

Also, can't really see myself in one of those slankett thingies LOL!

Aw, pity. £15 doesn't sound shocking to me but only if the quality was very good. I know the smaller lighter throws are only a few pounds but I haven't seen many big ones to compare prices. Hope you find something and are all snuggled up cosily soon!
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

I'm Kent born and bred too - tho now live in the midlands.

It depends whether you are from east kent or west Kent, the divide is roughly the line of the river medway. I am a Maid of Kent as i am from the Isle of Sheppey which is east of the medway. Kentish men (maids) are from the west.

Also apparently, The Men of Kent resisted William the Conqueror far more than the Kentish Men, who weakly surrendered. Afterwards, the bravery of the Men of Kent made them proud while Kentish Men were believed to be weak-minded, and so a keen rivalry developed.

The Man of Kent loved freedom and won from William I the promise that there should be no bondsmen or villeins in Kent. The old law of inheritance called Gavelkind was unique, too, for it ensured the division of land between all children and not just to the eldest, as was the Norman custom. Giving a stability and counteraction to feudal rule system. Gavelkind was legal until 1925.

Nice to meet you all by the way :j

• For fleeces Ikea tend to do a range of them in varying prices. I've also seen them in Poundstrecher.

The best one I have is a heavy purple double bed size type one, bought about 12 years ago, and it's quality is fantastic it was from a strange shop that sold a bit of everything and it's still my favourite - not much help there sorry.
• Hi Everyone
I lived in Kent for about 30 years and miss it,I have lived in Scotland for the last 10 years so I have been really interested in this thread regarding the weather! I am an OAP and live on my own but I must admit that I was quite snug in my small flat last winter,I did manage to get out now and again mainly to get my cats some food and top up with milk ect; I live on a main road so it was gritted quite frequently and I was able to move my car. My housing Assoc rang me a couple of times to ask if I was OK and did I need anything but I managed fine. I am supposed to be getting new central heating shortly,my system is over 20 years old but it's always been OK as it's been serviced every year. In the last 2 years I have had new double glazing and a new kitchen and bathroom fitted courtesy of housing assoc so I am not too badly off.
The only thing that gets to me is the isolation when the snow arrives and it was bad here last year,my neighbours are all young people following their own interests,I quite understand this of course but all I am saying is don't forget the oldies or disabled when the weather gets bad and they can't get out to get anything.

Ooo by the way, I made an order at Dunelm this morning for a faux fur blanket/throw. Not sure if anybody else has mentioned already but if you can handle the "sexy" print (actually I am slightly drawn to it tbh), they have some reduced from £30-something down to £17.50. Other colours seem to be standard price.

Could make great Xmas pressies or just keep it all to yourself for snuggling under :T

Thank you ever so much for posting this. Was looking at these today at Dunelm (only plain ones though) and they were fab but too dear. I've just ordered two of the animal print ones:) Order does say yellow though so not sure if it's a glitch.

Just walked down to Lidl with OH to buy a massive (5m x 4m) tarpaulin for our garden furniture. The chairs won't stack and couldn't find anything big enough before. Whilst there I found a big fleece blanket - 2m x 1.5m which looked really snuggly, though not thick like we were discussing, but I thought the size of it made up for the thickness, for £9.99. Look forward to trying that out later :)

http://www.lidl.co.uk/cps/rde/xchg/lidl_uk/hs.xsl/index_24599.htm

Strangely the offer states that they don't have them until the 29th, and they're £12.99, but our Lidl had them today at £9.99.
• I've gone for the lid tarpaulin too. Couldn't find anything reasonably priced other than that to do the job. works a treat.
