Im annoyed my new kitchen door wasnt fitted today as promised but they cant get the glass wide enough for a wheelchair wide door till next week

But they have knocked £30 off from messing up the contract, I just hope its ready next week before the very cold weather.

Its been a nice day in Durham, sunny and quite warm so i hope it stays like this for a while.

Valk - I have been looking for flannelette duvet covers for years before buying any this year, and do you know it never, ever occurred to me to make them out of normal sheets. And I can sew and have a sewing machine. I think my brain must leak out a bit more every year.

Lol...sometimes the most simple answer isn't the most obvious, is it? To be fair though I was making duvet covers for years out of cheap 45" polycotton in the days when covers were really expensive and Value textiles hadn't appeared yet. I'm still using some I made 20+ years ago, come to think of it. So when my mum passed away and I found an entire trunk of flat sheets (not something I use...fitted sheets and duvet covers for us) some of which I remember from my childhood it seemed the obvious way to use them. I used the offcuts to make things like shoe bags and laundry bags btw. Can't stand flannelette pillowcases!

  • Evening,

Was in L*dl today and they had flannallete sheets in Super King, King and single. No idea if good quality though! HTH

Got some nice heather plants for tubs which were on offer. I have to say the L*dl near me is very well stocked so I am trying to hit it as much as possible. Got some tinned fruit, dried pasta in sauce, passata and some chocolate all at a very reasonable price. And all for the storecupboard! Happy days. Freezer comes tomorrow so will be on the scour for reduced quality meat etc ASAP. I am planning on hitting the supermarkets like it's a raid. No 'whoopsied' item is safe:rotfl:

My latest top tip - get some kittens - mine are curled up on me and super warm and unlike water bottles they don't get cold!!

but thanks to the massive spider on the whirly gig

I keep one of my son's turbo water blaster guns filled so I can zap spiders off the garden airer whenever necessary! My aim is pretty good now ;)
I've had to get my daughter packed, drive her to Uni and get her settled in her new house this week, so haven't really done anything here. It's definitely nippy at night now-and the last 2 nights, there has been a distinct frost ring around the moon! My cat-warming my lap nicely as I type!- already has his winter coat, plus he is eating for England and laying some fat down on his skinny bones! (He's obviously been reading this thread :D )
Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!
  • Thanks for this great thread.

Kmiller4 - I just wanted to check how you went about getting your 40 coupons for 40 bags of veg. Did you save them up over time? I eat lots of veg so very interested to know how to do the same!

    Well done!

I am in the US. I ordered those coupons off eBay here. Many people sell coupons for a very low price on eBay. Apparently, they have access to multiple coupon flyers so they cut the coupons to sell. Most say that they coupons themselves are free-- the fee you are paying is to compensate the seller for their time and trouble. Of course, it would not be a bargain if the cost of the coupons is too high. Also, many of our grocery stores in my area double the value of coupons up to (but not including) $1. Hope this helps!

I've not much left to get ready for winter now!

Could did with a rug for the kitchen floor, nothing special, so will keep an eye for bargains, or even and off cut of some sort.

Need a medicine box and hot water bottle. Then just stocking up on more food will be helpfull - but not the end of the world as we've plenty to see us through any really really harsh weather, and i'm fortunate enough to be able to take the tractor out if we get really desperate!

  • Hi everyone, been missing for a few days while having my op - glad it's over.....

Now 2 weeks of no weight bearing on my foot (which is practically impossible) so will give me plenty of time to catch up on everything I've missed.:)

Managed to pop to L*dl and got one of their airers (and a pair of boots) before op - it's actually pretty good and holds a huge amount of stuff so pleased with my £8.99 spend.

The new lino in my bathrooms is great and it feels much warmer in there - they've needed replacing for around 4 years :o but I just never have the spare funds to do things like this. I finally managed to get both bits for £50 by using the £2 coins I've been saving in my jar.

The £2 tin was originally going to be used to "do" my front garden (gravel, few pots etc) but as it's going to be quite expensive I always find something useful to use the money for first - think I'll stick to "realistic" and small/medium sized projects from now as at least they're achievable!

DM found some heading tape (not sure if this is it's proper name) which she stitched on the top of the I*kea fleeces and I've been able to just hook these onto the existing hooks on the curtains - fantastic - feels warmer just having them up!

Feeling very nippy here today (but could be in part as I'm practically bed-bound so can't get warm moving around) and have my scarf on!

  • Kirsty your cushions etc are fabulous -well done for being so creative - and thank you for saying it was a remnant from Dunelm - there is a Dunelm here but i didnt know they did remnants - will have to have a rummage. It might just be the answer to a problem!!!!

Hi, last year i bougt from Dunelm. Thick oilcloth and some thick clear pvc. I got whatever random design was reduced... which they do at our local store all the time.

I used this to cover a good amount of our wooden floor at the front door and the back. It was enough for us all to get in and shut the door and cold out without damaging the floor with all the snow ice and grit. I put the door mat on it so the oilcloth didnt slide around. I also stood all our wellies and boots on sample swatches of carpets and they would absorb any drops and puddles. On a night time I would give the oil cloth a mop so it was clean. I folded this up once the weather was ok... i think i might need to gett that out again.. hope this helps someone
