Oh well done Fairy - so glad that bit of stress is over for you. Try and check in when you can, its an enormous boost to be with people who know what you are going through and who are supportive. Does this man you are back at the grindstone from tomorrow or have we got you till next Monday?

  • Back at it tomorrow, although just my work for a couple of weeks so will still be around in breaks. Students come in two or three weeks (depends on how you look at it) so probably won't be around much then, but you're right it is nice to be around people with the same ideas.

TBH its also really nice to have ideas that other people find helpful, I spend a lot of my time with students whose idea of a bargain is £1 shots.:(
  • does anyone know where the cheapest place to get traditional "sausage-type" draught excluders is, please? i am in blackpool btw

I got some from Wilkinsons (cost around a quid)
And some from the 99p shop.

Know what you mean about the students - we use o buy our cloths in the Sally Army shop - now they want new clothes every season and not just the cheap stuff. And drinking - well I know we used to put it away but usually only on eek (2 max) but these guys are at it almost every night. I couldnt deal with them for love nor money; at least children still have the promise of potential, students however just look to me like potential nearly wasted (moan groan grumble etc......)
We are both feeling cold and unwell here today so I have relented and put the electric heater on - yes I know what a pair of complete wusses. Quite honestly I feelso rough I can hardly believe Ive managed to stay out of bed today.
Have dug out the heavy sitting room door curtain and put it up so one thing achieved today.

  • Hope you feel better soon Tugrin. I started a cold over a week ago that has now developed into a sinus infection and white patches on my throat.
    Oh woe is us!
    Normal people worry me.

:T It pleases me to no end that someone else sees a massive spider as a sufficient reason to avoid an area/piece of furniture etc. My OH thought I was nuts because I once left a towel on the radiator for over a week because there was a very large (and hairy) spider on it. I upended a jar over it. He was out of town at the time as he provides all spider removal services. He wanted to know what I would do if he wasn't around and I calmly informed him I would wait for it to die.

:rotfl:I have never set foot in the loft of any house i've lived in and will do my utmost to stay out of sheds in case I encounter any spiders.

I remember my neighbour coming to the door once and asking if I would cut my grass (it was that bad! but I was 8.5 months pregnant and OH had fractured his wrist) I told him if he got the stuff out for me I would do it, he looked at me like I was a nutter when I said I had spotted a spider near there and thats why the grass hadn't been done (and wasn't edged properly the last time due to the mahoosive fooker on the fence!!)

My biggest acheivement to date is visiting my OH when he was my BF and lived at his dads. They were pretty rural and I swear the spiders were mutants (eating horse feed etc) Never ever seen little diddly spiders (which I can just about deal with) just man eater sized 8 legged monsters!!!

Anyway, thats enough of me rambling :rotfl:

I have been thinking that next month I may allocate £100 to extra store cupboard items (last car payment was this pay so I have a little extra money) and after watching 'the day after tomorrow' last night (Jake Gyllenhall :D:D:D) its made me realise that although we wont get -150 temperatures that I really don't have adequate prep done for Winter.

£7.50 is allocated to a thermal throw for LO's bed.

Trying to think of some good value store cupboard essentials. Will get some coffee mate when I'm next in Costco so that at least if I can't get out for milk that I can still have tea (Costco also have a great deal on Tetley tea atm) Will also get another 750g tub of hot choccie.

Going to stock up on some brown rice and wholemeal pasta. Savoury rices and 5 min pasta things too.

I'm really lucky that my LO is a great eater and will eat mostly anything put down in front of him (unlike OH)

Is anyone on this thread from the central belt (ish) area of Scotland? I passed a pick your own fruit place whilst going to St Andrews however it was closed when I was heading back. Does anyone know of any in the area? I would love to pick my own and maybe make some jams etc to put away in my stores.

I will pick up curtain poles this weekend and get my door curtain up. Need to get organised!!
  • Hi I wondered if I could get some help please.

I am on a very small budget and trying to get sorted for winter.

Can you suggest where I can get the following, which need to be reasonable quality but as cheap as possible. I can buy these things locally but not sure where the best buys are to be found, what are you ideas?

    Warmest slippers
    Hats, gloves and scarves
    Fleeces
    Thermal vests
    House coat/dressing gown

I am also looking for a cheap rug - as one room has laminate floor and is really cold. I'm thinking around max £20 or below. It is really just to keep the cold out - needs to be fairly big. Not sure if I could try freecycle?

    Thanks for your help.:j
