Has anyone tried doing a bit secondary glazing with perspex/acrylic? The handle on my bedroom window sticks out a bit from the frame so Im not sure that the window film thing will work , so I thought I could maybe do a sort of temporaroy frame thing with the acrylic.

Yes, we have a porch with cast iron criss cross window frames. The cold they bring in is unbelievable, so DH decided to put perspex on them. It does work but doesn't look very nice. The window frames weren't perfectly flat either so he had a bit of a job sticking it to double sided sticky tape.

(I have to say it was very entertaining watching DH with double sided sticky tape and a sheet of perspex - one of those moments in life):D

Pipe guages? Now, dont be getting all technical on me. Thats a question that I cant answer but i do know that both systems works completly independantly of each other. The solid fuel parkray was installed first but was no longer used after the oil system was installed at the other side of the house. The plumber installing the oil told me at the time the parkray could still be used. So I did have a dual system although never used. This set up of dual systems would have been, and still is, quite common here in Ex local authority housing.

My sisters had the same set up but removed thier fires, they're both sorry now. LOL:rotfl:

Thanks for the comprhensive answer angela, I will show it to my husband later on.

Boiler serviced this morning so that's one more thing off the list.

Feels like winter already here today.Am half way through knitting a scarf in some lovely hand spun wool I bought earlier this year. I'm a bit behind with the knitting, quillting etc as my first grandchild is due next week so have been knitting baby clothes non -stop since the spring.

Congratulations on the impendint birth, I hope it all goes well for your family, a new baby is such a blessing and I remember when my grandbubs was born I had a grin a mile wide for a month.

Toots my machine is a second hand one from a sewing machine shop. They often do trade in (just like cars) and service the old machines and sell them with a year's warrenty. Mine was the best part of 20 years ago now but it has been fine the whole time. I bet if you put housebound on freegle somebody lovely would drop it off to you - good luck.

I've been making the most of the good weather for doing bits outside in the garden. I did wash my ski jacket today too. I really could do with a new one as it is 9 years old and not as warm as it once was.

Still investigating the loft insulation, I'm not good at making decisions.

Thanks Jamanda - the tip about the double sided tape is really useful - I was envisaging jamming it into the window space with bubblewrap!! Will source and price up perspex tomorrow.

I have to report another fabulously generous freegler for a steam-cleaned great quality four foot mattress, thus saving me considerable pennies (well pounds actually) which I can now put towards the heated throw; DD asked if I was cold tonight and I wasnt but she was really chilly -think shes picked up a bug - but a heated throw would have been absolutely perfect...

the cuddle pillow I mentioned some pages ago - worth saying that having a cushion on your lap also helps keep you warm! Especially with a throw over the top!
