Preparing for winter II

I'm stuck with the main winter prep now, I've run out of safety pins for pinning the fleeces to my curtains :rotfl: My livingroom curtains too 4 fleeces and all but 2 of my safety pins in total
This weekend I'm hoping to get some curtain track & put it up above the front & back doors and the kitchen window so I can open the curtains wideThen I'll need to sort the curtains, and ring my landlady about getting a new fire installed, and visit the local carpet shop to see if I can get a BIG piece of carpet for the livingroom, something for the bathroom & something for the kitchen. I used to have carpet down in the bathroom and took it up last year as it had got smelly & I was having CH put in, I now regret it as the bathroom is freezing without it down. My kitchen is just a concrete floor with cushion floor over and no heating so its freezing in the winter :snow_grin
Right, I need to get on with my work & stop getting distracted by Xmas and winter stuff :rotfl:Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -

What about putting down small rugs in the bathroom that you could wash? Might help keep it warmer but wouldn't get so smelly...might also look a little strange depending on how much floor space there is, but thought I might suggest it.0 -
Its actually a tiny bathroom, I have a bath mat on the floor which only just fits. My main problem is that it has 2 outside walls, the biggest of which is northfacing so even with the radiator on in there its cold no matter what I do. In my old place I managed to get bathroom carpet from that particular shop (I also put it down in DD's room before she was born and it was so worth it when it came to cleaning up
) which is why I'm going to try there. I was considering carpet tiles, but decided against it unless I can't get the bathroom carpet

. So went to L**ls yesterday... they must be clearing their shelves for Christmas as lots of empty spaces!!
At least you got there, I tried to nip in the other evening to discover it was closed. It was one of those ransacked during the riots so I assume that they are taking the opportunity to refurb. The whole trip was made worse by the fact that my local T's has closed for a refurb (hate the place anyway, but needs must and all that) and the local Sbug was closing early as they share the car park with local football team and there was a home match. Just what I wanted after a long weekend end away:mad:A smile costs little but creates much0 -
My Mum has already given me my Birthday pressies (as I visited UK this past weekend and won't be back until after my Birthday now). God love her, she got me thermal socks, earmuffs a snood and new fleecy slipper sock thingys (all on my list). So I'm feeling more prepared already.
The sock thingy's are from the Cotswolds shop, NOT Millets as I previously thought. They are here, if anyone is interested: http://www.cotswoldoutdoor.com/index.cfm/product/blue-mountain-womens-long-supersoft-sock/fuseaction/products.detail/code/4C110076 I love them! I got a pair last year, and have worn them so often that they are almost worn through on the soles! lolFebruary wins: Theatre tickets0 -

this won't solve your everyday issues with the cold in there but something i do in winter is to let my daughter have a bath first. as the bath runs it warms up the room nicely (ours is small too) she gets in and is covered by warm water so she's warm
then after it's already warm from that i take my shower. i suffer terribly in winter from my back muscles seizing up when they are cold so i can't shower if the room is cold and i can't get in and out of a bath because of bad knees so shower it is!
this method has helped me a lot and keeps me from having to use the very very expensive wall heater. if it's really cold we'll leave the door open for an hour beforehand then she does her bath first. also in winter we do a sponge bath every day and only shower (or bath in her case) twice a week (we both have dry hair so this works fine for us).
i realise this may not be an option for you if you don't have someone else to have the bath or your hair is greasier than ours etc but i found working our lives around the cold bathroom was the only solution for us but it turned out ok in the long run, it was just about adjustment each winter.0 -
Thanks for this great thread.
Kmiller4 - I just wanted to check how you went about getting your 40 coupons for 40 bags of veg. Did you save them up over time? I eat lots of veg so very interested to know how to do the same!
Well done!0 -

:T It pleases me to no end that someone else sees a massive spider as a sufficient reason to avoid an area/piece of furniture etc. My OH thought I was nuts because I once left a towel on the radiator for over a week because there was a very large (and hairy) spider on it. I upended a jar over it. He was out of town at the time as he provides all spider removal services. He wanted to know what I would do if he wasn't around and I calmly informed him I would wait for it to die.
Glad everyone's prep is going well. Meeting at work went far better than expected.:D I'll be on less in the coming weeks as I get back into the swing of things and make use of all of my prep, but will still be checking in every few days. (if it was inappropriate to say that then feel free to remove).0
