I think its going to be a rough ride. I'm glad i have my fleeces and hats and scarves, and stockpiled food. at least I should be warmish.
what's 'greening'?
i've been wondering for awhile if a great depression was on its way, with greece failing again so miserably and the way the states are heading, it does worry me.
i'm greatful for my food stockpiles (i always have these regardless of the time of year, my food savings account has saved us on a few occassions over the years) i'm trying to buy every thing i simply must have then just stop buying for as long as i can to save up extra cash... also starting to think i may keep more cash on hand just in case anything major happened with the banks, not really expecting that but it soothes that voice in my head telling me i'll regret it and won't forgive myself if it ever does happen. mind you if it did happen i think my food stockpiles would be worth more but fear isn't really rational or logical is it?0 -
I don't have a huge amount to do, only me in tiny flat. But I have
*checked first aid box and have enough sore throat/blocked nose/painkillers to see me through
*got fleece blankets to line living room curtains
*Sorted out thermals and long tops ready
Need to order some emergency food supplies in next month in case carer is off with snow/no school as cant take wheelchair out in ice/snow so at least I have bread/milk/soup to tide me over
Need to find electric blanket type thing, had lovely fleecy heated throw but broke and the new version was made of lined material that made it very slidey and I kept falling off the sofa when tried to move, may have to make do with electric blanket under a normal blanket on sofa. Really feel the cold so unless is direct heat still freezing even with heating on, which trying not to do!0 -
This morning I rubbed down my garden furniture and re teak-oiled it. It looks like it could take another layer before I put it to bed for the winter. I hope the covers I bought this year last-the ones from last year literally disintegrated by spring, it was bizarre!
I have just got out my sewing machine to see if it still works, so I can sort my curtains out. I am still waiting for my ex to put the rail up for me, and am wondering whether it matters as he could put the rail up to suit the length I end up with? Anyway I am trying to work out where locally I can get some thread to match the curtains. We have no haberdashers now locally-I am wondering if Dunhelm do thread, as that's not too big a drive?
Yes they do thread, look for the craft section.hth.£71.93/ £180.000 -

poundstretchers had some in tigerstriped fake fur, that's the closest i've seen but those are $4.99, they had some stripey fleece ones for just £2.99 both have hotwaterbottle and covers for those prices0 -

I think about this too sometimes but by the time I go into town again I always forget to get some cash! I do think you have a good point, but how much would you keep? I worry about where I would keep it as well!December GC: £3500 -

i was thinking a few hundred... i'm not going to give away my spot  :rotfl:but i'd recommend somewhere it's unlikely anyone ransacking the place would look.
so definitely NOT under the mattress, not in jewelery boxes or cd cases etc. just make sure YOU don't forget where it is0 -
Ive got a book thats a metal box which is handy for keeping £100 or so at home, it goes in book shelf would be ok as long dont knock over as would make a thud noise.0

Oh goodness please let's not get in that break-down-of-society mode , there is another thread on her about that sort of thing although I think the last posts were made a while ago. Its all doom and gloom and water purifying tablets and keeping anti-biotics at ome and 'The Road' (as in film) scenarios. I seriously put the willies up myself reading it and was transported back to the time wen the nuclear clock stood at 2 minutes to midniht and te governments 'Protect and SUrvive' propaganda - at least loo-rolls are all soft and bouncy if they fall on you - lets keep to those!!!
BUT I must tell you about my mother . who was a hoarder and a 'hider' rolled into one. After my dad died, she revealed that she was keeping a store of cash under the fitted carpet (one area not tacked down for ease of note laying down!). My sister and I duly took up part of said carpet only to find majority of notes had ceased to be legal tender some years previously -lol!!!! Had to take all to bank and explain - leaving out exact whereabouts of cash hoard, and get them changed. Just dont get caught out by any changes in design etc......debt free 2021 at current DMP rate[/COLOR] (probably be in an old peoples home by then)0 -
The only reason i can think for keeping a few hundred quid about the place in winter is paying for the heating!! Seriously if the weather is so bad that banks can't fill their machines their ain't goin to be much in the shops to buy nor any chance of getting there to spend it. Lets keep this thread less end of the world and a bit more warm and fluffy!
I am decided whether to buy a delicious wool throw I wanted for last year's christmas pressie to snuggle under - oh really takes the mick out of me and my blankie but I would love something super soft and snuggly. Decided to get real sheepskin slippers/ house boots too just need to save some penniesPeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.
