Preparing for winter II

Good Morning
It was down to 10 degrees outside last night and horro of horros there was condensation on my bedroom windo this morning! Now I do realise that this is a daily occurence for many of us and indeed I have lived in many a house that needed towels on the window ledges and regular wiping down - but what Im worried about here is that Im supposed to have these all-singing-and-dancing double glazed windows and they didnt do this last year Is it the brand spanking new loft insulation wich has very definitely lifted the upstairs temperature? Have the seals gone? I havent done the bubble-wrap tango yet - will this help? HELP!!!!!!!!!!
Apart from that emergency - hope everyone has a really positive start to the week - well done us for prepping as the weather forecast is not nice
Possibly having the loft insulated has cut down the drafts? Drafts = ventilation! You need to increase other ventilation to compensate. Also where's the moisture coming from? Lots of steamy showers or baths in an unventilated bathroom, or drying wet laundry indoors? Best practice is to reduce the sources of moisture alongside increasing airflow. I personally would keep the bedroom window open a tiny bit at night plus leave the bedroom door ajar if it's the bedroom window that's the only problem.Val.0 -

Do you open the window to allow some ventilation into the room?Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0 -
Went to ikea yest to get fabric for the back door curtain but bhubby didn't like what I had picked out and the one we agreed on was out of stock so no closer to getting that done!
Had a quote back for getting out original sash and wooden windoes refurbed and beter graft proofing - what a joke - could have the heatign on all winter long for the cost of getting 1 done!People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

I had to laugh in B & M the other day saw some boxed umbrellas for £1.00 each got 2 one for me (mine got nicked from work) and one for my daughter. Looked at my receipt after i had paid got some other stuff and they had charged £3.99 went to get the manager and she said because the weather had turned wetter they had put them back to full price, i got them for a £1 but i thought it just proves to try and get things out of season as as soon as it gets to that time of year the prices shoot up. So thanks to all of you on this thread i am very organised for winter just need some more firelighters, coal and semi skimmed milk.Jan lunch to work days 0/200

Hi Val and CH - no Im not what you would call 'a natural window opener' mainly due to my (please dont laugh but this is true..) fear of insects coming in having been very badly terrified by a stag beetle once when younger....(cringes with hidden shame!). Also wont I get flipping cold?? The only source for this moisture last night was me and little dog breathing (probably snoring too). I thought if the window was working properly there wouldnt be such a temperature differential as to cause condensation - it doesnt happen in Finnish houses, which I know are triple glazed but it was only 10 degrees which is positively mild compared to over there.debt free 2021 at current DMP rate[/COLOR] (probably be in an old peoples home by then)0

Can the window be locked open slightly?
My PVC windows can & I always have them open a crack apart from my bedroom which is wide open all year:DTry to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0 -

what about getting some netting and sticking it over the slightly open window? it'd stop the minibeasts.0 -
I stocked up on lip balms.. NOT carmex as it makes our sensitive lip very very sore.. evil stuff.. DD5 suffers badly every year so she can have 1 to zip up in her coat pocket... under instruction not to share with friends!
I got 36 loos rolls yesterday.. which will last about a week if I am lucky! impossible to stock up too much on such things in here!
something that might work for you since your lips are sensitive is to mix up some petroleum jelly with the ends of the lipbalms that are left in the tubes, gently melt together and then pot them up in a wee tub (i'd recommend an old carmex tub but i'm guessing you don't have any) this would be a cheap way to extend the life of the lipbalms as petroleum jelly is really cheap
the reason i didn't do it is because i like the extras inside carmex, i don't have sensitive lips and find the carmex is the only thing that both soothes my chapped lips AND heals them, i don't get that from other lipbalms. i also use carmex on my nose when it's raw from blowing and it will heal it up overnight, also good under the nose to open the sinuses so you can breathe well enough to go to sleep (tiger balm whilst more for muscles works for this too but it stings a bit).
i do have some lipbalm tube remains from when i got a slew of them for 10p each from chemist 4 u a few months ago. those have been saved for the melting down into an old carmex pot, i'll use that when i totally run out of carmex.0 -

That's the trouble, I am friends with a lot of his friends and I don't want it to get awkward, so maybe a new city is a good plan. But of course, Newcastle wouldn't really be new to me as that's where my Dad's family are from. The big trouble is money and getting a job up there of course. Maybe time to start looking at adverts.
actually though, if you can find a job maybe newcastle wouldn't be such an idea after all, it's more of a safe bet as you wouldn't be totally alone up there so you'd have someone you could fall back on for support if you needed it, kinda take the worst part of the risk away from a big move...unless of course they aren't your favourite part of the family, then maybe not0
