Look on Ebay for hydrogen peroxide, you can buy it in different strengths. :) I use it in 36 percent strength for taxidermy but you can get it in strengths of 5, 7, etc percent. :)

cheers! in the end i did check ebay and found that chemist 4 u sells it via ebay. so i checked their website and they don't even have it there BUT chemist direct did and it was far cheaper only 85p a bottle, i got the 6% (saw 9% as well but many people said it was too strong) they also had the 36% cheaply.

whilst i was there i stocked up on some expectorant, i have none and i suffer from post nasal drip so expectorant helps to just clear the stuff out, especially if the loratadine (hayfever) doesn't clear me up enough to stop it.

also grabbed some carmex which i used to think was expensive (well it is compared to how cheap it is in the states) but now realise after using those wee things of chapstick is far cheaper, each chapstick only lasts a fraction of the time a pot of carmex does and can cost a quid each!

also got stocked up on my low does aspirin, trebor mints for 15p each! (colds give you such horrid breath ) and some electricl tape in cool colours for my tape obsessed daughter :rotfl:

i'm so glad you all told me i could get hydrogen peroxide in the uk from way i've been treated in the past asking about it i just thought it wasn't available over the counter so i gave up
  • Sorry if this has been covered, but i am wondering if there is a very cheap way of making de-icing spray? I know htey are only a £1 a spray, ( I have allready got one bottle ready) before i go and buy a few more for the winter, i just thought is there a way of making some..

I know years and years ago i seen in the news that somewhere they were spraying a runway with cheap wine to try and de-ice the runway:rotfl: which made me think about making our own de-icer spray... with old cheap booze...

maybe white vinigar with a hind of old vodka

any thoughts or links would be great

I have also noticed the old fur cones are starting to look good... so i have a big box ready for them to be dried.... for fire lighters...

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:how odd. years ago I used to have a couple of all in one combination type thingies for bed and I always used to think of Jed Clampett:p

BTW i dont recommend them. They were like a babygro without feet Kept you warm but when you went to the loo as a laydee you had to practically disrobe and shiver:eek:

aww well then you need the kind like jed would have worn, with the back flap for just such purposes :rotfl: (must be a challenge to button that back up though!)

thanks for the heads up Carolyntia - I wondered about a rice cooker - are they any good does anyone know?

Toonie sorry to hear about your split -

i bought this microwave rice cooker from amazon just £6.29 with free delivery and great reviews. i love mine, i had no problems with white rice (other than it taking an age on the cooker) but i could never get brown rice done properly.

now both come out excellent, i find brown takes about twice the time as white but that's not bother really. i also add in seasonings and things like corn and peas and it comes out just like those expensive flavoured rice packets!

and Toonie, i too am sorry to hear about your split, i wouldn't worry too much about the winter prep just yet however once you're settled in your new home perhaps you can use it as a distraction when the hurt gets to be a bit too much

I prefer base layers to thermals as they are high wicking, I have three sets I sleep in and they keep their shape nicely so the leg cuffs stay around my ankles.

Has anymade a channel type (like jml sell) draft excluder?

i haven't made one myself but i did buy one of these and it's brilliant! it cost me £3 but getting the foam would have been a challenge here and hand sewing it would have been very time consuming so all in i figured that was less than the cost of the foam alone if i bought it off ebay and had it delivered and my time is always in short supply.

if anyone has a sewing machine and or the foam lying around the house i'd def recommend making some of these, so much easier than faffing around with a normal excluder

We've changed our bedroom furniture around to the winter placement.

I was thinking about this yesterday as my lounge's the same - I really don't know what the builders were thinking of (probably how to do things the cheapest way) but they've put the only radiator in the room on the only long wall so the sofa has to sit in front of it:(.

It's fine in the summer as I can push the sofa right back and have a lovely space in the room but hate it in the winter as it has to sit practically in the middle of the room (which isn't huge to start with) and it gets in the way of everything.

just a quick update on my heating upgrade - had a chap over on friday - to talk about options - he really doesn't want me to opt for gas central heating - as it will be lots of hassle and hard work for his men

i really don't want to keep the electric storage heaters and as i can't have a woodburner - i think gas is the way to go - so i think i will call the chap on monday morning to give him the news that he is dreading :D

Surely it should be what's the best option for you - and certainly not that it might mean a bit of hard work for them! They're paid to do a job and should be trying to find the best solution not the one that means they may have to do a bit of hard graft.

    bought a lovely snood (Primarni £4.50!) (see a trend there ;) )

would that be the big black wooly chunky knit snoods? i bought one for both myself and my daughter when i took her last weekend to get her all in ones... really lovely and it looks great with my new coat (fits great!) if it weren't for my knee and back problems i almost can't wait for it to be cold enough to wear both :p

One of the tesco ladies told me last night that one woman took EVERY SINGLE PACKET of the 22p pasta they had-over 60 packets. She couldn't possibly need that many, so why not let other people enjoy a bargain, too?

That's just ridiculous - very greedy & selfish (whatever her situation) and makes me really .

I know Mr M used to have a limit of 3 offer items / person (not sure if they still do or not as don't have one near me anymore) - I always felt that 3 was a bit low and 5/6 would've been better but ... at least it meant that more people had a chance of getting things.

I honestly think that there should be a max limit of say 10 offer items / person everywhere - so many times I've gone into one of our stores to get something either because I need it or because I've seen an offer and there's none there as people have been buying HUGE quantities. Offers should be available to everyone, not just those who happen to be in store when the shelves have just been stocked.

I'm just back from the beach with the dog (beautiful day - 3rd lot of washing in) and popped into Mr T again and still no 22p pasta. Asked at CS and they've never heard of it so looks like it's not on in the stores here:(.

sorry whats base layers and wicking??

These are often used in sports such as cycling and running and activities such as hiking.

They're good at stopping excessive sweating by "wicking" the moisture away from your body and will keep you cool in the summer/warm in winter.

Having multiple layers lets you easily take them off/put on as your temp rises/lowers.

I feel like making a big change in my life, but I'm not sure how big a one I could cope with. A friend is looking for a lodger, in Newcastle, but I'm wondering if that would be to big a step. Plus...it would be a lot colder! Plenty to think about.

When I split up with my ex I ended up moving to a new city - we had the same group of friends (had known each other several years before becoming "an item") and so were always running into each other. It was OK and I didn't hate him or anything, I just got to the point where I felt I had to move on and seeing him practically every weekend/night out/get together etc was stopping this.

It was great for me - a fresh start and I made new friends/found a job etc pretty quickly.

It is a big change tho - I did miss my friends "at home" but it's so much easier to keep in touch nowadays which made it a lot more bearable.
