you could try a hall runner carpet, just long enough to start past where the door opens so it doesn't need to fit under the door. Our local market does them for about £20, so not a fortune to invest.0 -
3 toilet rolls _pale_ ... panic ......
I prefer Andr'x or sainsbugs/t@sco own brand and I buy them when they're on offer, but if I was down to just 3 rolls I'd buy ANYTHING
:rotfl:I never used to buy them until down to last roll!!!
I now have 2 lots of 24 hiding in the bedroom because of you lot!!!!0 -

One of these fitted to the outside and a curtain on the inside should get you through.

Just a quick post before bed to confirm that I am no longer a lurker
. winter preps in this house are slow going at the mo. I seem to be lacking motivation and it's so warm tonight! sat here with doors and windows open.
tomorrow morning I am off to Aldi to buy spirits. this yr I am making my own winter warmers...rhubarb schnapps, damson brandy, damson gin and apple schnapps . some of that will be for christmas presents to go with mini christmas cakes that I'll get started in a couple of weeks, blackberry jam, onion marmalade and spicy courgette chutney (can you tell I've got an allotment). The rest I fully intend to drink!!!
If I get time I might also pop to asda to see if they've got any of the quilts left and maybe a slowcooker for my Dsis christmas present. not sure how impressed she'll be by it, but I think she needs one, so get one she will, lol!
I have such a busy few days coming up that I'm not sure when I'll get chance to post again...still haven't finished sewing uniform name tapes on, forgot to buy pumps, need to write DD1 b'day invitations out so she can give them out on tues. have promised my darling little cousin that I'll compile a student cookbook for her ready for when she starts uni in a couple of weeks. still can't find my winter stash of hats scarves and gloves. and I'm still mourning the loss of my favourite scarf, well, it wasn't exactly lost. I gave it away. I don't wish I hadn't, but I also wish I still had it iykwim. I gave it to a man on the park last new years eve. he needed it far more than I ever will. I hope he's still got it to keep him warm this yr!
I'm also wondering, and sorry for rambling, if the girls and I might go and help in a soup kitchen this christmas seeing as DH will be working...
Off to bed anyhow, sleep well winter preppers xx
ETA: not such a quick post after all, lolfreecycler and skip diver extraordinnaire:cool:0 -
May be going to Ikea to pick up some blankets and tealightsSavings £8,865.22 £/15,000 Aiming to save enough for a house deposit.0

I prefer base layers to thermals as they are high wicking, I have three sets I sleep in and they keep their shape nicely so the leg cuffs stay around my ankles.
Has anymade a channel type (like jml sell) draft excluder?
You can get the foam from Wilkinsons or a hardware shop, it's quite cheap:

Hi K - can I introduce to the wonderful shorthand and slightly 'slangy' English word for £'s quid?
THis will save you having to write pounds sterling everytime you convert for us LBPs I think will just confuse a lot of us as we dont even use lbs and oz (pounds and ounces for the younger amongst the Brits!) any more (wish we jolly well did tho').
Very envious of your weight loss - I just cannot shirt any at the moment, and your Liz Cliaborne handbag (purse I believe is what you call them?) I have gad my black leather holdall type for at least 5 years and could do with a good replacement but all I can find in thrift shops are plastic these days.
Weather does not look promising today but never mind Im making blackberry related things this morning.
Thanks for suggesting "quid". That will work quite nicely! The weight loss is pure hell-- but I must persist at it to cure my diabetes. Yes-- I am very happy about the new purse-- if I can just remember to switch it out when I wear black shoes! Do you have Liz Claiborne in the UK? I like her designs because I am "mature" and her tops are long enough to cover my tummy and pants have enough rise to cover my belly button. She is "upscale" but still affordable.
Vera Bradley handbags/purses and luggage are a hot item in the US as well. They are all made of quilted cloth. Is she popular in the UK?
I picked up 3 liters of UHT milk and 2 kinds of cold medicine for the stockpile today. I may need a new winter coat due to the weight loss. OH just bought my current one from Land's End for a Xmas gift last years and it was pricey. He will not be happy. Oh well!:D0 -
Yes K we do hae Liz Claiborn but and he is wonderful I agree for all the same reasons as you! Howere she is out of my price range for the moment - that is why I ended up on this website in the first place -BIG debts!!!! However if I see ANY of her things in thrift shops Im like a terrier after a rabbit! DOnt know Vera Bradley at all but if she is a new designer that could just be becuase buying fashion mags is a thing of the past for me - and I dont care either I feel much better for it and spend my time thinking about how to adapt those charity shop bargains.
Very sorry to hear you have the diabetes and of course the very best wishes and big dollops of support for keeping on with the weight loss - you are right you simply must and you can to shift the evil disease - keep us posted it will give us all a motivation and we can continue to support you.
Sure you could send the Lands End coat back - maybe worth a call.debt free 2021 at current DMP rate[/COLOR] (probably be in an old peoples home by then)0 -

Just wondering where you recommend buying toilet rolls from and which brand? You would all probably faint if you looked in my cupboard at the moment cause I'm down to 3and I don't mean 3 packs of 18 either :rotfl:
Hi Runnerbean - Ohhhh myyyyyy, (rising, is feeling quite faint at the thought of there only being 3 loo rolls in the house and may have to go for a lie down to recover!)roosterpotatoes wrote: »I know that a lot of use use the brand Nicky, they are sold in Farmfoods and Home Bargains if you have those stores near by, I have just bought a pack of 9 for £2, its really good quality 3 ply and has a scent to it as well
They work out to less than 25p a roll and I think are still cheaper than when other stores have offers on ones of the same quality
hth:rotfl: cant believe Im talking in such detail about loo roll:rotfl:
I'd 2nd the Nicky ones - great quality & quilted:). Our Home Bar*gains do 18 packs for £3.99.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
