Preparing for winter II

If you are scared of cutting that much off the curtains in one go then just take the tape off and then fold the top over by the amount you think it needs. Pin it down across the top and then hold it up to the rail and get someone to check the length for you. Once you are confident about the length then iron the top fold to help you keep the line straight, then cut off the excess leaving about three inches. Then when you sew the tape to the top then it will trap the raw edges inside the bottom of the tape. You will only have to sew the two straight lines to attach the tape across the new top edge of the curtain, just two lines, one at the top edge of the tape and one at the bottom edge of the tape. Simple! Iam assuming that will be using the deeper curtain tape, the one with the three rows of hooks so you can choose which one to put the hooks in.:hello:  please play nicely children !0

right sorry rambling on thanks for listening
Not sure if I've done this right as I don't quote very often! We had a hutch hugger for our guinea pig hutch and for the winter I wedged an old feather duvet underneath it, sides and back. So, yes I think your idea would work, but you will need to make sure the seams are protected from the rain or the duvet inside will get wet and rot.
Hope that helps! x0 -
Thank you so much, Rosie and Babyblooz! You've made it sound more simple so that I feel I can have a go, much appreciated :TTomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!0

Hi! Never posted on this board before but I've really enjoyed reading it.
Just wondering where you recommend buying toilet rolls from and which brand? You would all probably faint if you looked in my cupboard at the moment cause I'm down to 3and I don't mean 3 packs of 18 either :rotfl:

Happy to help! I have had soooooo much help from people on here I am more than happy to give some back. Sewing is a confidence thing, have a go and stick to simple things and your confidence will come. Its a good skill to have because you can buy curtains from charity shops or car boot sales and even if they are too long you can make them fit. The technique I explained is even better for lined curtains because you just use the same technique. Just fold down the two layers and sew on the tape in one go. If you shortened from the bottom, you would have to take up the two different hems. It is sooooo much easier to do it from the top. I wish I had found out it about it years ago.:hello:  please play nicely children !0

3 toilet rolls _pale_ ... panic ......
I prefer Andr'x or sainsbugs/t@sco own brand and I buy them when they're on offer, but if I was down to just 3 rolls I'd buy ANYTHING
:rotfl:... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Hello all
Had another busy Winter prep day:j
Put bubble wrap up on my Bathroom window, fahioned a kind of flap so that I can still open it on warmer days to let some air in to stop the condensation building up. I was surprised how much air is getting in as the flap is moving alot even when the window is closed.
Got a Slow cooker reduced to £10 in Mr Ts and also got a single electric blanket for £2.50!!!:T Going to pop it into Pips bed until he goes to bed, whip it off and lay it across ours until we got to bed.
Lined Pips bedroom curtains with a fleece, it had little tassles on so I just knotted it onto the curtain rings and then hung the velvet ones back on.
Used a Mr T value roll of tin foil to cover some cardboard boxes cut into chunky strips and have put them behind the radiators, dont know how effective they will be but for the cost to make they certainly wont do any harm!
Still dont know what to do with my blind in living room??? Cant use anything thick as it will block all the light but want something to make it a bit cosier.
If only - The mincemeat recipe is only Delias, just google delias mincemeat and it will pop up. Would post a link but my laptop is misbehaving!!!Debt at LBM [strike]£17,544[/strike] £5700:TOver £14,000 PAID OFF :T

There is a gap under our back door. Sometimes the rain comes in not to mention a draught! Whole back door really needs replacing tbh but just not affordable atm. Any ideas how to keep the rain and draughts at bay?0

Hi and welcome runnerbean17:wave:
I know that a lot of use use the brand Nicky, they are sold in Farmfoods and Home Bargains if you have those stores near by, I have just bought a pack of 9 for £2, its really good quality 3 ply and has a scent to it as well
They work out to less than 25p a roll and I think are still cheaper than when other stores have offers on ones of the same quality
hth:rotfl: cant believe Im talking in such detail about loo roll:rotfl:0
